I plan on buying a 05-06 G35 Coupe 6MT in the near future. I had read that the 05 and newer have the Rev-Up engine, is that true?Is there way of knowing which cars have it?

The Rev-up motors are only available on 05-07 G35 coupes and 05-06 G35 sedans with the 6MT transmission. No 5AT G has the Rev-up. While all VQ35 motors have variable intake timing, the Rev-ups also have variable exhaust timing. The rev limit is a little higher on the Rev-up. The Rev-up also has a little more HP but less torque than the non-Rev-up motors.

Thanks.

Is the oil consumption problem common or is just bad luck to have it?

It does not seem to be a common issue, but if you do get it, Infiniti will replace the engine after an active oil test. I wouldn't worry about it.
