I am putting in a new system in my new g35 coupe. The system will include;

Kenwood double din head unitFocal utopia three way frontsfocal polly kevlar two way rears

us amps 2 channel for rearsus amps 2 channel tube amp for front

2 us amps 2000x to drive the sub1 15" digidal designs 9500 sub

My question is, should the sub face the rear or to the front? and if I face it to the rear, and the back of the fox fills the entry to the vehicle - how is the sound?

thanks

With a 15 I don't think its really going to make a huge difference if its facing front or back. I'd point it to the back so it looks nicer when you show it off because you know you are going to.

Somewhat off topic, what kind of arrangement were you planing on for the 3 ways? I always hated installing those because of imaging issues.

i am going to either make a custom door pod, to hold the two mids, ans the theeter will go where the side mirror is or a pillar

or

ill put the mid in a kick pannel

i am trying to think of how i can fit 2 15inch subs, but the box volumewould have to be about 8 cubic feet,

and there is not enough room in the trunk for that, along with 2 optima batterys, and 6 amps

Since your talking custom door pod, have you thought about doing a DiApolito array with the tweeter in the door and an ambient tweeter up on the dash? Those set ups image great with a nice stage height. Since your spending the money on a tube amp might be worthwhile.

Tube amp in a car? That's pretty much a waste (especially since you don't have a tube preamp), but if you've got the money to spend, more power to ya!

Holy comb filtering, phase, and imaging issues batman! If you like a spacial, floaty surround sound in front of you, then by all means do it! Cars are tough places to get good sound, but being able to pinpoint where the flutes are at while listening to music is still important to me. If I've got tweeters all over the place relecting sound off everything, how can the imaging be discrete enough to hear the orchestra and not just hear noise?

DiAppolito is an MTM design, meaning Mid Tweeter Mid. 3-way's cannot be a diappolito design.

there is no need for a pre amp. and a good tube amp, is not a waste if you have heard the sound quality.

Your headunit IS a preamp.

Subtle differences can be heard in home audio. However, when the noisefloor of a car is around 70db, as opposed to a nice quiet <10db in a home music/theater room setting, the difference is negligable.

I would bet you could use a US tube amp for the fronts or a US chip amp and as long as power levels and distortion levels remain nearly the same, you will more than likely not be able to tell which one is playing without checking to see which amp is hooked up.

I'm not telling you don't buy a tube amp, I'm just saying it's a bit of a waste unless you're wanting bragging rights.
