did you take off the foam from the bumper? when i installed my cold air intake a year ago i figured to just keep the foam in there for when driving in the rain ( anybody here with a cold air intake knows what i'm talking about ) so that air filter doesn't get wet...

so how often do you clean your filter? knowing that it is exposed to all the elements ( dust, rain ).. i know it's a PITA getting the filter in/out the fender... that's why i never removed the foam.. what's your take?

I use the JWT pop charger (look at my sig)

I'd say clean it every 6 months. Thats how often I clean mine.

If its not a daily driver, then once a year should be sufficient.

I just recently intalled a NISMO CAI. I did remove the foam block at the bottom of the bumper.

The only problem I see you having is sucking in water in heavy rain. If I remember correctly the AEM does not have a bypass valve like the NISMO CAI. And water + pistons = BAD THINGS

will it still "suck in" water if your'e driving in the rain ( water hitting your filter) since your filter is now exposed... it'll suck water only when you hit a puddle and the filter is submerged, right?... and yes AEM does not have the bypass valve... reason why i left the foam insert.... but it makes me wonder if i am getting enough cold air in there since it's "boxed" up pretty much

I doubt it can suck enought water in while driving in the rain. But if you get splashed buy someone it may be enought to get sucked in. If you live in a state where you don't get much rain, or has good drainage you should be ok removing the foam block. Removing it will be benifical. If you are that concerned about it, you can get a bypass valve from Summit. Then just cut out a 2" section if the pipe above the filter and install it there.

http://www.aempower.com/ViewCa...ID=20 AEM makes their own bypass valve that is specifically made for certain intakes.

apparently, hydro-locking only happens when filter is submerged in water... rain splashes does not cause hydro-lock (hhmmm)... it seems also that removing splash shields on your fender does more harm than good... allowing air heated by the pavement to enter the filter which brings down performance... "it is recommended to keep the splash shields for filter performance and protection"... thanks for the link slider...

Personally I removed a small chunk out of the corner for easier removal/installation. You should have no problem with water unless you are sitting with the filter submerged and gunning it. The location keeps most of the water off the filter and there is usually not enough suction at crusing speeds to suck up water 2 or 3 feet to the engine. Removing the foam will alow more cold air flow but you do have to clean a little more often, usually every other month depending on where you live.

Just recieved my JWT --PGHR7 dualo. My take a while to get it in. Better to be busy than sitting around, however.

I installed it last weekend. JWT popcharger that is, seems like a little less low end torque but better top end and mid range pull. Not much more sound, but a little. I used to have headers and a magnaflow system on my altima however, so I guess it's all relative as far as sound goes.

joa, now just go to a Nissan dealer and see if they have any intake tubes from a Z. If they have one, they'll usually give it to you for cheap. You'll get more sound with one if that's what you're looking for.
