My friend was looking to by a g35 with the brembo brake kit. The dealer was saying how it would probably be better to buy a later model one without the brembos because maintenance on them can run up to $4000!!! What could possibly cost 4000 to do to the brakes, or was this guy just spouting BS?

the dealer will probably charge a rediculous amount to change pads and rotors, change them with ones that wear out in no time, and void the warranty if you do them yourself

its how they make their money...but thats what theyre basing that off of, if he can get out of having them do the brake work id say theyll cost a lot less to maintain

frankly im surprised they mentioned that, youd think theyd want him to spend more

i agree with nismofly... iirc, i remember seeing a thread about someone having an incedent with the dealership charging them 3k for pads and rotor change... i'm not sure if it was here or on FA... but seriously, its not that hard, and hells not worth 3k in labor

Ok, so I will let him know that there is no point in shying away from the g35 with the brembos. I was just worried that they might do some secret, super special, and incredibly difficult maintenance thing that noone could do on their own. I was really confused because I couldn't possibly fathom what they could charge so much for.

A coworker of mine was a Nissan tech for a while and said that you can compress the pistons on the Brembos and 300ZX 4 piston calipers, remove the pads and slide the rotors off with out even removing the caliper bolts. Not a great deal of labor for a 3-4k dollar brake job, but I know the dealer parts are not cheap!

OK, here's the deal, since I actually have a Brembo-equipped Coupe:

I was quoted over $900 for a rear brake job on my Coupe. The rotors alone are $400 each (with NICO discount).

I just bought Brembo rotors online for WAY less (under half the cost of one rotor) and added EBC pads.

No need to shy away from this car because of high dealer prices - It's just a car, and those brakes are AMAZING.

Yeah, something about big brembos makes me weak in the knees.

Oh, and he wasn't a used car salesman. I think he was trying to get my friend to go with a 2005 instead of the 2003, and using the high price of the brake jobs as a reason to go with the 2005.

that would make us two. I always wanted brembo brakes, but don't have much budget for the mod.
