For those of you with a G35 with 18 or 19" OEM wheels or 350Z with 18" OEM wheels and 245/45-18 rear tires, please respond:

Please list which wheels you have (Touring/Performance 18", Track, Anniversary Edition, non-RAYS 06 wheels, 18" or 19" G35 wheels) and if you are having any issues with accellerated wear on the center tread of the rear tires.

What I am looking to determine is if the 8" wide wheels with a 245 wide wire is causing the center tread to bow out slightly. The 350Z Track, Anniversary Edition, and 06 non-RAYS 350Z and the 19" G35's have 8.5" rear wheels with 245's, so if these do not have this issue, and both the G35 18's and 350Z (Touring/Performance) 18's do not, then I think it will confirm if this if the reasoning behind the problematic tire wear.

I just did an oil change over the weekend and noticed my rear tires that I put on a bit over 9,000 miles ago are toast already. The tread on the shoulders have plenty of tread, but the center tread is down to the wear bars and the other one is right behind it. The front tread is still good all around as are the front OEM Michelins that came with the car. In fact I have the front OEM Michelins in my garage as they were still good at 14,000 miles.

So basically, you need to have OEM wheels and OEM tire sizes to respond to this:

Car: (350Z or G35)Wheels: (19" G35, 18" G35, Performance/Touring 350Z 18", Track 350Z<not 06>, Anniversary Edition, or 06 Non-RAYS 350Z)Rear center tread tire wear: (yes or no)

thanks in advance

Chano,

That's a dfeinite possiblity. Here's the standard from a BFGoodrich engineer I met at the test track in Laurens, SC:

For every .5" you increase rim width, the tire contact patch will get .2" wider

this works in reverse, also. Now, squeesing a tire on a less-than odeal rim with cause the sidewall to pinch, and the contact patch to get longer (than if it was on the ideal rim width), esspecially in the center, which would elad to increased center wear.

Overinflation and/or "burnouts" will do the same.... Both will increase wear in the center of the tire.

I have approx 5K miles no Michelin Pilot SP's on my G35C (245/40/18) and the rears are wearing very evenly.

Michelin Pilot sports on 18inch G35 rims (245/45-18), I have only driven on them a few months since I bought them from the original owner. Not sure how many miles were on them but all I can see is some chamber wear on the insides and it was a stock 6-speed G35.

Part of my interest in this comes from the fact that they are using a half inch wider rear wheel on the newer wheel designs. I can't help but think Nissan Engineers saw this issue and saw the wider rim to be the solution.

Overinflation was my first thought when I had originally seen this complaint in the G35 community. However, many tried to run lower pressures(as low as they could without triggering the TPMS), but still had the same issues. Mt Michelins lasted much longer than the S-03's I have now on the rear. But both tires are exhibiting similar wear patterns. I will say my tire pressure is at 35 psi now and the Pilot Sports were run at about 32. Might have had a small effect on the the difference in accellerated wear, but I think there is a problem with running this tire on an 8" wheel. I'm really hoping to see more input here so we can figure it out. Or at the least make a scientific guess.

Car: (350Z or G35) 1994 Q45Wheels: 18" Track 350Z RaysRear center tread tire wear: (yes or no) Nope.Rear Tires: 245/45/18 RE040's

I've only put about 2-3k on them, but havbe not noticed any "early" center wear. Currently sporting the winter set up, so it will be some time before I can offer and further information.

Also, What about the G35C 17" wheels. I had a set with low miles and the rear centers were as you've described. It was a 7.5 wheel, but I can't recall exactly what tire was on it.

EDIT: Feel free to delete since this isn't on a G or 350.

What size tires on the Z wheels?

The 17" G35 wheels used a 235 wide tire. Probably a similar issue, bit for the sake of trying to limit outside factors, I'd like to keep this narrowed down to 245 wide tires.
