Hello,

I own a 2004 G35 Coupe with 49K. The car is running great, brakes are solid, acceleration smooth, and no other misc. issues as I can detect. My dealer has contacted me to have the 50,000 service done on the car. Below is the list of tasks to be done for $1,200:
Lube ,oil and filter
Air filter replace
In-cabin filter replace
Wiper blades
Brake fluid flush
Cooling system flush
Transmission fluid service
Differential fluid service
Drive belt replacement
Tire balance/Brake inspection
Consult system check/ Emissions diagnostic
Multi-point inspection
Wash and vac

I have an independent garage who have serviced my BMW for years and is excellent, however I'm not too sure his experience with Infiniti. I think I will have him perform a basic overall inspection and just fix what is needed. Any comments with respect to Infiniti vs Independent garage for this level of service.

The other issue is my Powertrain Warranty expires in November. I am thinking to take my G35 to my independent garage to check-out the car but specifically review all Powertrain systems to determine if there are any issues. If so I could then take the car to the Infiniti dealer for warranty service. Any suggestions on specific things that should be checked on the Powertrain.

Thank you

Welcome to Nico!!

First, would need to know the service history of your car.
Have you ever had the transmission, diff, radiator serviced?
I assume you have the oil changed/air filter changed at some regular interval, so just stick with your schedule.
I am assuming that the transmission, diff, belts have never been touched.

Transmission flush - I let Nissan do this so that I had records. plus better than a drain/fill
Differential fluid service - I let Nissan do this so that I have records.
(guessing around $300 for above)
Coolant flush - or fairly EZ to do a drain and fill - follow procedures in the FSM's
(around $110 for Nissan to do)
Drive belt replacement - Inspect, but probably due. EZ to do yourself (FSM)
(Belts around $35, around $100 to get Nissan to do)
Cabin filter - Inspect, but probably due. EZ to do yourself. (DIY somewhere on NICO)

I would consider taking your G to a Nissan dealership for these services as opposed to Infiniti.
This will save you some money.
So, I'm thinking you need about $500 to $600 worth of stuff done, if done at Nissan.

Cobra - Thank you for the detailed response. Fortunately the first Owner performed all scheduled Infiniti Services as per the following mileages: 3,750k; 7,500k; 11,250k; 15,000k; 18,750k; 22,500k; 30,000k; 37,000k; 41,250k; 45,000k as I have all of the service records. I purchased the car at 48.800k in March. Currently have 60,500k which are 80% highway commuting miles. I also own a 1997 528i BMW which has given me little trouble in 8 years. I rarely performed a cooling system flush; brake fluid flush; transmission fluid service; or differential fluid service as I can recall. I change the oil and filter on schedule as this is a must, but the other tasks seem to be premium service items and not necessarily critical. Since the G35 has been well maintained to date I feel it is premature to perform these tasks at this point. I think a oil & filter and general service inspection including brakes, belts, etc. by my Independent Mechanic should suffice at this mileage. The major item I want fully inspected is all Power Train system items as this warranty expires in November. On the Power Train inspection do you have any specific items that should be checked. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to NICO

You will find lots of opinions here but here is my $.02

Those dealer recommended services are written for those people that never lift a hood to inspect anything. Most wives for example that just put in gas and go

If you change your oil, oil filter, and air filter regularly, check your tire pressure, and rotate your tires all of this can be done yourself saving you quite a bit of money. You'll know when to replace your wiper blades because it will become difficult to see. The blade inserts can be purchased at Infiniti parts and the service guy even showed me the little trick for inserting them. Takes only a few minutes and they are cheap.
I had new brake pads and rotors cut at 85k miles so thats when the brake fluid was flushed.
I had my plugs replaced at 106k miles so thats when the belts were replaced.
I've done 38 oil change & filter replacements every 3k-3.5k miles and change my cabin filter once a year
I've skipped the 15, 30,45,60,75,90 & 105k mile services.
Still have the same transmission and differential fluids with no problems.
BTW I've had vehicles with almost 250k miles on the same transmission and differential fluids with no problems

Your decision
