I went in today to pick up my new G35 - first shock I get (after paying the big $) is that I need to go back every 3 months to service - is this excessive or what OK I know some of you will say, he's spending big money buying this car - why stinge on the service. Is it really necessary though? Can I make it every 6 month +-4000miles. The sales guy mentioned something about synthetic oil - if I request this at the first service would that reduce the frequency.

Knowing very little about the G35, I can say the VERY LEAST you will ever want to do is a new oil filter and oil change every 3000 miles/90 days.

No exceptions. You must.

I honestly think other items can be done annually, but I need to know... what else did they do at the 3 month service? I mean are they trying to charge you $50 to refill your wiper fluid or what?

most dealers will advise 3 months or 3,750 miles. this is usualy an oil and filter service, tire rotation, ( depending on your model ) and a general inspection. the first service owners may have questions and or waranty concerns that only the dealer will be able to take care of for you.

It's called an oil change. I wouldn't call that excessive. Having it done at the dealer, different story. I have a buddy that got an 03 325is and they told him he should change his oil at 10k. I laughed and he told me it was because they use synthetic oil. They must need work real bad.

Depends on how long you want components to last and how much if anything you feel you owe the future owners. Or the chance that you or family might want to keep the car for 15 years.

The average car will have 3 owners before the junk yard.

To me, an oil change is an oil change."Service interval" implies theyre gouging you for other things. What is your service bill? What are the charges?

I agree with Dennis. Dennis has said numerous times before, if the original owners of the early Q's had taken them to the dealer as directed, there would be alot more on the road today.

The 3 month is an oil change and they check your fluids and tires just to make sure everything is alright. I really don't remember the cost. It is a bit more than taking it to the local Jiffy lube though. The 6 month, I believe there is a tire rotation and some other minor things. Check the service book that comes with the car, it tells what they do and when they do it. I receieved some free oil changes from the dealer when I bought the car, so I have no problem taking it in for the oil changes for now.

That is the one thing most people forget to negociate, when buying a car - Servcie.

I negociated $7.00 oil changes, as long as I own the I30t. This includes a free loaner, and a full car wash (not the best car wash).

I also get discounts on everything I get done on the Q.

I decided to have ALL servcie work done at the same Infiniti dealership. This will look good, IF I ever decide to sell the car, which is looking very doubtfull.

If you were buying a used car, would you buy the one that had all its service done at the same place first?

As far as flushes for the transmission, or synthetic oil, these are not "normal" servcie items, and must be requested. Otherwise, you will never get a transmission flush, or fuel rail flush, or a brake fluid change.

I am very happy with Brewbaker Infiniti, and their servcie department.

He mentioned SOMETHING about synthetic oil. :rolleyes You have a lot of research to do my friend. If you plan on keeping the car until the wheels fall off go for the synthetic oil route. But it sounds like you're not mechanically inclined so I doubt you'll go through the hassle, down the road, of the more frequent maintenance. In which case stick with your dino "regular" oil.
