Well your technically right because starting it would not be safe if the O-rings are at fault. But holding down all the way the accelerator while cranking will signal the ECU through the (Throttle Position Sensor) to not open the injectors which will eventually clear the cylinder(s) of fuel.
So check the cylinders before starting to make sure you don't start the engine with a cylinder full of fuel.
