1999 G20t

Post

I have a curious problem with our 1999 Infiniti G20t that has plagued the car since new. The car now has about 140K on it, is in perfect tune, and, with the exception of this problem, runs perfectly.

If I start the car from cold and run it less than one minute (as might be done to move it a short distance on the driveway) and then turn the car off, the next morning the car refuses to start. If I repeatedly turn over the engine with the starter motor, the engine will finally pop irregularly, seemingly firing on one, then two, then more cylinders, until it finally catches, runs roughly for a couple of seconds, and then smooths out. If I then allow the engine to run and heat up, it will run perfectly and restart without any difficulty.

In all other circumstances the engine starts in the first seconds and first revolutions, regardless if the engine is cold or hot, whether the ambient temperature is freezing or extremely hot, or if the weather is dry or it is raining. Nor does it matter if the engine has just been run or the car has been unused for weeks.

The only time the car has ever refused to start has been the next moring after it had been started so as to be moved a few feet and then shut off. As this was usually done so that I could wash it on the driveway, I originally thought that I had somehow gotten an electrical part wet enen washing the car. This explanation was ruled out when the problem occured after I moved the car a very short distance in dry weather without washing it.

This cannot be the only G20 that does this. Does anyone have an explanation or a solution...other than the obvious one of letting the engine warm up a bit after starting the car?

Could be a fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator issue or ignition issue.
