Hi Guys,

I just got an Scan Gauge 2, been looking for the OBD 2 trapezoid connector but all I can find is the nissan consult connector found on the fuse box.

Anyone knows where to find it?

Car is an Infiniti G20 (2001).

thanks for the heads up, but I couldn't find it where you mention.. is it supposed to be down there between the fuse box and the steering wheel? because it appears to be a place for a connector but its nothing there...

I will get some pictures later, maybe I can get better directions that way..

From what I understand G20 where equipped with a Nissan consult proprietary port until 99 and ODB2 from 2000 onwards.

My 2001 G20 has a consult port as shown in the picture.

The following pictures show what is found between bellow the steering wheel and the fuse box. I believe the slight curve that is seen in the plastic is where the ODB2 connector should be found, but I can't find anything there.

Is there any alternative adapter to get consult port to work as odb2, so I can use Scan Gauge ?

I believe you can buy a Nissan 14 Pin to OBDII 16 Pin adapter so it will work with your ScanGuage but I'm not sure if it will provide the exact same functionality. Maybe you can call the ScanGuage manufacturer and get some more info or if that will work.

Yes that is the adapter. Also you might want to contact a Nissan dealership in your area and explain to them what you are trying to do and see if the Nissan port and the standard OBDII port as basically the same.

how did you go? my guess is not good, but maybe you can surprise me.

because the scangauge is OBDII, it doesnt understand nissan consult, so unless your car somehow has the old consult connector with a K-Line (OBDII) pin on it, no adaptor is going to make it talk to scangauge.

I'm still waiting for it, I'm in Chile so it takes a while longer to get here. As you say, I'm also afraid that it won't work, but hope is the last thing you loose as we say here :D

I'm still thinking it's wierd that this car didn't come with an ODBII port...

if you're in chile that might explain why you dont have the OBDII port. many countries where there were no laws about OBDII being required were free to continue using their current systems. here in australia there are some nissans (patrol, pathfinder) that have the OBDII port, but arent OBDII at all - they must have run out of the consult plugs. the latest year model ive seen with this is 2006. australia doesnt have any mandatory OBDII laws (or didnt for quite a while). so those vehicles with the OBDII port actually have the original 'consult1' pins in the OBDII connector, no K-Line or CAN or any OBDII pins.

anyway, dont worry if you cannot get it to work, because you can get an ecutalk display instead: http://www.ecutalk.com/consultlcd.aspx

yeah there is international shipping (im Peter from ecutalk - see the www link over on left <--). i think you would be the first purchase from chile. if it doesnt work for some reason u can return it for refund if in original condition.

Today my Consult/odb2 adapter arrived with no luck, scan gauge got stuck on "connecting". Tried forcing all of the different protocols with no success.

And Peter, I don't think I'm getting any other device soon, maybe later this year. Thanks for your time anyway.

no worries. if you have some time and a multimeter, can you tell me which pins from the consult connector go to which pins on OBDII connector?

i saw one german seller on ebay who had the pinouts which didnt seem logical (maybe a mistake), as in the cable wouldnt even work with the proper nissan consult II unit.

Did you try getting in touch with Scanguage's Tech support and see if they can help or even call Nissan and see if what you're trying to do is possible. NewKleer could be on to something with the pinouts not matching also.

the pinouts being off would only account for it not working with a proper nissan consult or similar scan tool thats pinned for the proprietary consult stuff, scangauge wouldnt be.

reason scangauge wont work is its OBDII and id say are not interested in adding support for manufacturer specific protocols before OBDII, because they account for such a small percentage of overall vehicles compared to OBDII. but wouldnt hurt to ask - but it would involve them having to change there hardware also, not just a firmware update.
