Hello,

This is my very first post, so i want to go ahead and apologize for my ignorance up front. I don't even know if I'm even in the right spot but what the hell... here we go.

I have a buddy who suggested I check out this site, I kept putting it off but now I need some advice from people who have more experience than me. He seems confident in you guys so I'll give you a shot.

I bought my 2003 Infiniti G35 coupe back in May of 2012. When I bought the car it already had a K&N typhoon intake and Stillen exhaust. Needless to say, I fell in love immediately.

Now keep in mind that this is my first manual transmission car, so it could be user error. So the problem I'm having is when I shift into neutral from high(ish) RPMs the car will go dead. Its like the car can't handle the sudden drop in RPMs and dies. This happened frequently when I first bought the car, then it just stopped doing it for no apparent reason. Well, it has started going dead again.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I've remember running across something about intake issues once... let me quick check.

Here ya go, this might not be your problem, but it sound similar. I guess most suggest that it's the MAF sensor.

Ok, so it's an intake issue... That makes sense because it started again right after I cleaned the air filter.

So from what I gather, I can just disconnect my battery for about 10 minutes and the Mass Airflow sensor should reset itself... Right?

Someone mentioned to me that it could be a problem with the idle air control valve, but from what I've read about idle air control valves, it seems like I should also have an issue just idling sitting still. But the only time I have an issue is when there is a sudden drop in RPMs?

I'm certainly no expert on the situation (sorry), but from what I understand, the MAF sensor does reset after disconnecting it.

I don't know what dignostic tools you have at your disposal, but if you check out Joe's signiture, he has a link to the G35/37 FSM Joe's pofile

The page on Engine Control is under the "ec" directory for the 2003 coupe. You could try testing voltages/resistances of the MAF sensor component as described.
