Some of you guys may have seen me posting around here a bit over the last few weeks and its because I want a G! five years ago I was in a car accident (not my fault) and broke my femur. And I just received the insurance settlement. Right now I'm on my second 5spd Maxima and am thinking with some of this money I should upgrade.

So! I really love the G35/7's but have also been looking at couple used M3's. I would prefer the G hands down! but I couldn't stand pulling up to a light beside an M3 and have the humiliation of loosing to it. so i guess first of all can a stock G take an M3? and secondly whats faster? G37 or G35? Im going to be getting manual whatever I end up getting by the way.

now Info on the G's! it sounds like in 06 Nissan did some toying around with the VQ. Is this the "rev up" engine? and what are the benefit's of having it? And I want to get the G with the sport package. so Im just assuming the G35 S has got what I want? Does the S come standard with the Brembo brakes and what not? also what Is special about the S? just suspension upgrades? Any info would be muchly appreciated and I would love to hear all your opinion's on what car would be better!

Thanks!

The new M3's are pretty sick, they sound soooooooooooooo nice.

I would preffer the G35 05-06 coupe with a 6 speed myself, and if you modify your car, you might be able to take one (M3). At the track right?

Anyway, they are both sexy cars, and we obviously hope you choose G35, but the choice is yurz!

To be honest. You won't be satisfied. There is always a faster car. What if you buy an M3 and a GTR pulls right beside you at the light.

Don't buy a car for that reason. If that's the case just get a damn civic and rice it up to get 1/4 in 11 seconds.

The price differences are big between the M3 and G35/37. It all depends what year you buy what you get.

Brembo was only available till 04(non revup engine).

You can get a g35 and put turbo in it and you still have money left to spend before you reach the price of M3.

I think right now the g35 sedan is faster than the first generation g35 coupe and sedan. Also it seems to be faster then the g37 coupe. Next month the sedan will come out with the 3.7 engine and 7 speed transmission.

As B A D said the choice is yourz.

What's the chance to end up at the light at first and have an M3 right beside you twice in 5 years?

maybe 1 in a mill.

Take a look at the G-Series FAQ (link in my sig) to familiarize yourself with the Infiniti. I would get the newest model you can afford.

However, if it's speed you're looking for, get a used G35 and spend some cash for Forced Induction. That will level the playing field with the M3's.

You are doomed forever if you can't accept this...lol. Besides street racing is FTL and punks...your not a punk I assume?? Keep it at the track..

The G35 and G37 are very close in track times. The G37 has more hp but is heavier so it basically negated the added 30 or so hp it has over the G35.

Good chance that maybe we are all a little biased here towards the G's, but I too have to say, G all the way! I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate BMW's. What's worse is that I OWN ONE! I have a European Spec 3 series and I dog the $#*! out of it! I only got it cause I lost my old G in a wreck and BMW's are a dime a dozen over here. I mean they are literally EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK! I mean... what's the most common car in the states? A Camry, Beetle, Crown Vic? Civic's? What ever is the most common in the states, triple that at least and that's BMW's here. In any parking lot ANYWHERE here, you can't walk past 5 cars without seeing at least 2-3 BMW's.

At any rate, I will acknowledge that BMW does make some good and fast cars. But I still hate them! lol

Just my € 0.02

m3 is faster, but for the money id think about other sports cars if you dont want a g. z06, stock corvette, is350, tl-s, cts-v, etc. are all within your price range.

I would say the 07/08 G sedan would be the quickest of the bunch.

The suspension is squishy and stock traction is anemic.

I took on an older M3 (late 90s? early 00s) and there was no contest. He looked so mad. I did stop at the speed limit FWIW.

I think a few mods and precise shifting could put most of the newer M3s to shame, but physics doesn't lie.

The new M3 has .5l more displacement. 2 more cylinders. 1k-2k rpm higher redline. 40 more ft lbs of torque and 100 more hp.

It weighs around 200-300 lbs more than a G35.

G37 is faster. I ran with one at the track. It was hitting 13.9 and his best run was 13.5. My best run was 14.4.

Interesting Beaner...what was your reaction time compared to his? I didn't think it was a full second faster??

Which Type BMW M3's are you talking about? previous generation or new one with 4.0 V8 with 400 horses? I would probably look at more than just 0-60 times for a car, just because it can take you at the lights doesn't mean it's a better car. Looks, interior, and how well it will suit you in everyday life is what you should be looking at. For me 50% of the decision is what the car looks like, it could be the fastest thing in the world but if i think it looks ugly i don't care how fast it goes. Best choice is to just drive the m3, g35/7, and anything else that comes to mind, and decide what you like the most.

I know there is always going to be a faster car. That Is a huge problem for me. Im learning to accept it but its tough! haha

I know that a G couldn't take the new V8 M3. And that's not what I was looking at. I was looking more at the 02-03 M3's. With the inline sixes. And BMW's reliability doesn't seem to be up to par with Infiniti's. My Brother in law had a 330CI and It was always in the shop and just today actually! I went out and test drove a 02 M3 with 45k. it wasn't the SMG but the 6 spd manual...And i destroyed it! pulling on to the highway from a stop the sales guy said I could "prod" the gas a bit if I wanted to while pulling on. I decides to hammer it. It was a clean start and everything was good but then half way through first at about 4500 ish RPM's there was a loud bang and the car lurched to a stop. While we were waiting for a tow truck the salesperson actually still asked me if I would be wanting to trade in the Maxima or sell it privately. haha. He wasn't kidding either.

And I don't want to Rice out a Civic. I still want a classy car that's got get up and go. The maxima's 7 second 0-60 just isn't cutting it anymore! The G it is I guess!

dont buy an out of warranty m3, it will break your bank.

if you want a coupe get a 2004 g35 coupe with low miles and bank the rest of that money.

That applies to all BMWs, not just M3s. Also, new non-M BMWs come with rotten run-flat tires and no spare. If you plan to keep the car past the end of the warranty, any Infiniti will be a better deal.

Infiniti was still making improvements during the 2003 and 2004 model years. The consensus seems to be that 2005 and newer are better cars. If you can afford a 2008 model, the sedan's interior was much improved. Having test driven 2004 and 2008 coupes, I believe the G37 (which I bought) is generally a better car.

On the way to work this morning. I got behind a yellow vette. Looked like one of the lower end 03/04s. He had a Greenwheel (?) body kit.

Anyways, we got on the freeway at the same time. It's a decreasing radius 90 degree turn that starts out with one lane, then opens up to two. The point is, we both wait for the PT cruiser in front of us to choose a lane, then he takes off and I follow maybe .5 second behind him. We pulled at about the same acceleration until the end of the onramp where he pulled a little, then slowed down.

What's the point? My G was able to keep up with a vette most of the way.

I ended up catching the attention of a CTS who followed me "spiritedly" until I got to work. I loved it, because I gave the CTS the peace symbol and got the same from him.

I realize that I get much more happy responses out of beating people in my G than beating people in my I30. They hated me when I beat them in my "grannymobile".
