I would like to buy a G 37 in the near future but recently saw an Audi A5 pull up next to me and couldn't help but notice how nice of a car it was. However, at the same time, I'm wondering if it is worth the price difference. Any thoughts??

Edmunds.com indicated in its review that it's a great car, but gets a run for its money from the G 37 and 335i due to the cost factor.

On a different note, I'm a bit dissapointed that the '09 G 37x doesn't come with a manual option. Finally, are there any major differences b/t the '08 and '09 G 37s that would justify the purchase of an '09??

Thanks in advance, I look forward to the responses

My question to you is this. How long do you plan on keeping the car?

The Infiniti is going to cost you less in the long run for maint. and repairs, then the Audi. (I'm a VW tech and know the reliability of the VW/Audi brands) The overall cost of ownership of the Infiniti will be far less after the warranty runs out.

As for the BMW. I couldn't tell you.

Mmmm.....how do I say this........what are you really looking for in a car? I think this should be your first question. It seems you are flirting and committing automotive adultery in your heart for many cars and models .

Eh, my good friend, sleep on this decision and go where your heart desires. A car is like a girlfriend or wife you have to wake up to every living day, whether she is ugly, healthy, pregnant, nasty, sexy, temparamental, or not. So, what car do you want to wake up to everyday? If you can't answer this question in your heart, then any technical answer provided to you by anyone, will simply become unsatisfactory, in the long run.

Will you feel better waking up to a 2008 G-37, or a 2009 G-37, or an Audi A5/S5? Which car is calling your heart and soul? Which car do you really feel like making love to? If one cannot fall in love with a caar in their heart---that car will receive no love, and thus, will be treated with disdain and utter disgust in the long run---and in my book this is what i call abuse.

Go out there and make love to the three cars--drive them hard, spank them, and make them call you daddy . Come back and tell us which one rocked your world. Thats right!

even being an infiniti tech for almost 7 years now i do find myself drooling over the Audi S5 and even the BMW 335i, I have not driven an S5 but the 335i has a ton of power on the highway and i love me some turbo cars.

Now the G37 i can speak of and nothing but praise i think that car is great it is an amazing vehicle for the price that is an unbiased opinion (even though i have been with the company for quite a while now and before that i was with nissan) I do however believe that the G37 is a solid well built car and a natural progression of the G i remeber pding the 03's and i thought those were amazing i will always have a soft spot in my heart for the doggy door's on the early model 03's.

I have a few customers that have already clicked over 30k with G37's and have seen what has gone wrong with them, 1 had the axle click, exhaust noise, and vvel tsb and has run ester oil for a bit now and he loves the car. The other has done very minimal maitnence and it is still running great and she loves it. I do try to get in touch with customers to get a good story about the car once it hits its first mile marker and keeps going and they don't plan on getting rid of the cars any time soon.

I personally would go for the infiniti out of those 3 even though the audi is extremly sexy haha. I think the infiniti is a bit more refined and the sound the G37 nothing else sounds like it on the road.

like Jacko said in his very poetic kind of sensual in a way post i would take them out each for a 24 hour test drive wake up look at the car in your driveway take the long way to and from work drive the worst roads you can and see how they fair and how you like it. Remeber if you get something in your head about a car you don't when its brand new its always going to be in the back of your mind and your always going to think about it, it will make you hate the car in the long run, that can lead to a buy back which is a PITA for people like me haha.

Good luck with whatever you choose sorry for my epic post haha i am good at that when my fingers start moving they just don't stop and i end up going off subject a little bit i think i might be a touch ADD.

oops i did forget to address one question you had which is why the G37x does not come with a manual transmission. Nissan of north america and Infiniiti have not offered a CAR with awd and manual trans for the states. Why i can't answer that its just something that they do. I think its to make it easier on us the tech's since awd trans suck to pull out they are sooooo heavy and are the baine of my exsistence when i have to do one i hate them so much lol.

BTW i just drove the G37s Sedan the other day and wow that thing is awesome with the 7 speed another forum member can vouch for that and how great that car is as they went with me haha.

Jacko you are awesome. LOL

Anyways here is what I think. The germans are not as reliable as they used to be in 80's early 90's. So from that point the 2 germans are out. Also the BMW "free" maintenance smells. Talk to friends who owns BMW and ask how easy to get an appointment and a loaner car. Can't change oil only once every 10k or so.

Another thing you should consider the time after buying. How long planning to keep the cars? If longer then warranty than for sure don't go with Germans. It will cost you aarms and legs to kep it on the road. I also have in my mind the dealership has to be in the town otherwise I don't even consider buying that car even if it is the car I love the most. I just can't see myself driving 1 hour or more for a waranty job what takes another hour or two and drive back anhour. It just not worth.

Before you buy a car make sure you ask aroud how happy the owners are with the service in your area at the dealer. If you don't know anybody just go in the service dep. and ask the first guy. Explain your situation. I am sre they would give you ther sight. The reason is you can buy a car it takes minutes to buy one but you will own the car for years and you go back to the dealer for service a few times and if those experiences are bad you'll end up hating the car and the brand.

In my book the service dep is the most important among all. You need a good relationship to get anywhere.

And of course as Jacko says take them out and give them try everything on all 3 cars. See what suits your ned the most. Which one you feel the most.

Sorry for the long thread.

Either way you go. All 3 cars are nice it is just personal preference which one suits you more.

I wouldn't worry much about auto transmission. As far as automagics go, the auto in the G does a great job and is a firm shifter in comparison to other cars with auto's I've owned. The difference between the '08 and '09 is primarily a 7AT transmission vs a 5AT.

yea But the 7speed is a great upgrade.

Better 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as well as better gas mileage!

I think that is really helpful information, but it also bothers me that some members take the Tech's info as gold when the tech may have little to no knowledge in the area being discussed.

To the OP.

We are all biased towards Infinitis...well most of us are. None of the AWD models come with a manual transmission. My guess would be that they wanted too reduce driveline shock due to the dual driveshafts and higher load placed on the transmission. This is a guess, but I'm sure there is some truth in it.

As much as Jacko and I disagree, I have to say his advice is sound (even if it's a little NC17 lol). Go do some real driving with the cars, get to know them before you commit to any one of them.

Everyone,

Thanks for the advice and lengthy posts. I'll go give them a whirl even though I'm leaning towards the G 37 since I was a previous M 30 owner in the past and was very happy with the Infiniti.

Thanks again,

~Vinny

All of the cars you mentioned are decent cars, I personally do not like BMWs for their ride and electronic feature, but they are fast.

The Audi looks great, there isn't much out there that looks like it, except another Audi, I know very little in the category of power and reliability other than what the magazines say.

The 37 is a great car, automatic sedan is a wild ride. I would get in so much trouble with that car. The one we got to drive was bright red too, total cop magnet. The 7 speed will not let you down, it has paddle shift and Sport mode, both of which enhance the driving experience.

Jackos racey comments stir some odd emotions that I can relate with. I have now scheduled a shrync appointment tomorrow. Waking up in the morning and driving a new car to work will let you know which one is for you. That is the best way to tell what's right for you.

Hey where's the articles for the custom titles? LOL

Steve:

You are the man! When i test drove the 2008 G-37 automatic, all i could say was that cops would eventually seize my license at some point.

Frankly, the G-37 behaves pretty close to the set up I have now in my car with test pipes. Once I remove the test pipes, then the difference between the G-35 and G-37 becomes aparent as this re-distributes the torque and Hp bands. I would dare say that the G-37 either has better flowing exhaust and catalytic converter or larger Y-pipes than those of the G-35, and these are crucial differences between both cars other than the VVEL, increased stroking to 3.7L, and dual intake system. Plenum Spacer added to a G-35 should be just as good as having a second air intake as it is in the G-37.

Jacko next time I'm in your neck of the woods I'll have to buy you a beer.

I agree the new intake on even the 35 is great. I needed to barrow a loaner car to day and I took an 07 sedan with 13K on it and booked it home (~1.5mi) I made it in <2minutes with four lights (2 red) and that was a 35x auto in sport mode. It's just amazing the S mode holds the gear even when you let off the gas the overrun clutch does not activate while accelerating then just begs to be pushed harder.
