Hi everyone my 1993 G-20 has performed great for over four years I've owned this vehicle and now it somtimes starts and sometimes it does not start. A boost usually does not start the car. If I go out there now it will probably start but later in the day, it will not. Any ideas on what I should be doing?JIM

Friend had this problem on his Maxima, turned out to be the fuel pump.

Is yours just acting up on certain times of the day or is it random?

Have you had the alternator tested?

Could also be the fuel pump, as stated by PNF above.

Agree that randomness might make the fuel pump a chief suspect.

Had a '91 G20 that required a new fuel pump after 6 years. As it's located at the tank, not much chance that it just needs the connections cleaning up to restore it.New pumps cost an unreasonable several hundred dollars unfortunately.

You might need to experiment with pulling the fuse for the fuel pump, and trying a start, to first rule out something else that is causing too much fuel rather than none at all.

Good luck.

Agreed, have all your fuses diagnosed. If you don't know how to do it, take it to a shop, they'll charge about $30 and let you know. Good luck!

When it turns over, then I know it will start and it does start.Other times, it does not turn over; there is nothing but clicking sounds either at the fusebox or down near the starter motor.I had another car with this same phenomenon and think the mechanic replaced the distributor.

When the clicking happens, is there any whine from the back seat area? That'd be the fuel pump priming, which would indicate no spark (probably distributor).

That throws a completely different slant on it.

I would check that the main ground strap connection looks clean.

If that is O.K. and still no go, try hitting the starter motor carefully with a bit of 2x4 or something to see if that produces any effect when trying to start.

Those two things would be consistent with a boost not being helpful (and your battery, connections and alternator therefore probably good).

click/no crank sounds like starter/starter solenoid. they come together..pull your starter..take it to autozone/whatnot and get it tested...ez

most shops do like a full electronic scan (battery/starter/alternator circuit) for like less than 20-30$.

take your pick

I was working on my car today and it didn't start up first time and all I heard was clicking noises. Roommate boosted the battery, I let the car run for 15-20 mins, shut it off, and it wouldn't start again. Reason? Loose battery cable. Make sure your connections are secure. If there's corrosion on the cables, it can also cause that problem.

There is a continuous supply of fuel when the engine is running and the engine sounds good. The battery cables are all good and secure a well. Interestingly enough, when I tapped around with a piece of wood and then utrned the igniton, the car sarted right up! I think from what nismoraracingsx said, I have an electrical problem either with the starter or the solenoid switch.
