I put synthentic in my car and it started to smoke. 500 miles later and it won't boost past 4 psi and leaves a 1/4 mile smoke screen. The good thing is that you get all kinds of looks at the stop light.

I guess the next step is to find out how bad the turbo is damaged. Is it rebuildable? I have the tools to rebuild it but I think I may let a pro build it just for safety's sake. The turbo has less than 2K on it. If the turbo housing is shot then i may have to give up the CA and go with something that is cheaper to maintain like a sb chevy. I can get a decent one for couple hundred bucks and in a weekend or 2 have it running. I know you folks are purist and don't agree with it but for a daily driver I am leaning toward an engine that has cheap availible parts that aren't needed that often.

How is that oil-related?

Turbo might have had bad seals, or you may have simply overfilled.

I have run Mobil 1 for ten years in the same engine with absolutely no turbo failure. Don't blame your oil when your seals are to blame. Hell It might not be your turbo at all, how old is your engine? A motor with bad blowby would have a hard time spinning your turbo.

ever bothered to read the back where it says recommended for Turbocharged engines.

Also check your lines and helps to know which turbo it is? As you may not be running the proper lines.

I ran Crapsol GTX for the first 500 miles after swapping to clean out any gunk (there was none), then switched to Mobil1 15W-50. 3 years later, she is still kicking (a$$ and taking names that is).

Sorry bud, but your assumption of Mobil1 being your problem is just plain wrong.

Hey, I happen to love "crapsol GTX" as you call it. as far as non-synthetic oils go, its the best.

To the other guy, your car will smoke when it burns off the excess oil. Its just how it works. The oil has to go somewhere, it gets burnt. Happens to the best of us sometimes.

And just for the record, mobil one is fantabulous for turbocharged vehicles.

I've been using Mobil 1 extended performance 15w-50 and just recently switched to Castrol Syntec Blend 10w-40 I like the castrol better.

MAXIMUM protection against viscosity and thermal breakdown.

Oh, and John Force approves it. I wish him the best, that was a nasty crash.

This was quite interesting to read. I was surprised with the results they concluded, but it appears Royal Purple for the win.BTW if you go to the Royal Purple website you can see them dyno cars with and with out the Purple stuff.

Mobil 1 was a car oil a motorcycle mag used to test the theory that motorcycles needed motorcycle oil. It scored in the middle ahead of many "special" motorcycle oils. Remember that most bikes bathe their clutch packs in the same oil the crankcase uses. You think a turbo engine is rough on oil try being torn at by clutch plates.

Aw, there is nothing wrong with GTX. It is indeed the best dino juice for sure. I just don't like Castrol (or BP) as a company. All the crap with the Amsoil/Mobil1 lawsuit and all. I am just one of those consumers that buys the company, not just the product. I only buy Shell VPower, 3M adhesives, Permatex sealers, etc.

good thing I've dicided to run Royal purple, that just makes the extra 30 cents a qt. over mobil 1 all the better deal.

I think hes refering to the article that Johngriff posted, the article showed that Royal Purple was pretty much at the top.
