I had a problem with mine fluttering all the time, thinking it was compressor surge. Actually it was with a knockoff, then I bought a real HKS. Well it still flutters, so I got pissed and called HKS. Turns out, its supposed to flutter at low RPM's. Also, I think because mine is at such a low PSI (6.5) It flutters all the time. So yeah, the knockoffs work just as well as the real deal. Just thought I'd share some info.

you can adjust it to open longer by turning the screw in the back...

There's no screw in the back on the real HKS. On the Knock off there is, but it didn't do anything when I uncrewed it almost all the way out.

There damn well shoudl be one, they cannot possibly make a BOV able to work with a large variety of vacuum needs

The old design SSQV does have adjustment. The new SSQV does NOT have adjustment.

Why? It will stay shut under vacuum no matter what. It's inherent in the design.

Don't worry about adjusting it. It didnt do me any good, anyway.

But itsn't the point of the adjustment to regulate at what pressure you want the BOV to open?

I think you are thinking about wastegates. They open at a specific pressure. Bov's open when the throttle closes to release boost between the turbo and the throttle plate.

Hey 'jmwenick'. If you're looking to get rid of that knock-off SSQV, let me know. I'm looking at trying the whole 'atmospheric' route as my recirc BOV is taking a crap.

Let me know!Thanks!

Yeah, just email me at jmwenick @ hotmail.com we'll talk about it. Also, if anyone cares, I have a bunch of left over silicone couplers and pipes i'd like to sell, including two 90* Couplers.

I was worried that the flutter was surge myself recently. I also called HKS, they told me it was the design. This is supported by the fact that I get the flutter to a smaller degree when in vacuum even.

Yeah I thought I was having compressor surge too.But people said thats how it was and I even went to you tube and they all have that same noise.

Especially that HKS Racing Type II

The SSQV V2 does not have the adjustment screw, AFAIK. Mine does not, and I'm almost 100% sure that I have the real deal.

Because of the push-pull type diaphram I don't believe it's needed. Also, mine does not make any noises at all when I'm on throttle. I love it, the only thing in my car that truly has been a bolt on and required no adjustments, lol.

Hopefully this helps someone...

i have the new hks ssqv without the adjuster.

Mine never worked right and fluttered/compressor surged at all low boost and part throttle situations. It never opened fully until 12 psi.

...so i took it apart and removed the metal cap on the back of the spring :]

and it works great!

btw: i have low compression pistons, so less than stock vacuum.try it!

Uhh, what? My SSQV will pop off under ANY boost conditions including 1lb. And this was without touching the metal cap on the back of spring. Wait. What spring? It's a push/pull diaphram. I don't remember seeing a spring at all on the SSQV V2.

Also, lower comp pistons gives your less vauum? How does that work?

wow, yeah i had a brain fart. my vacuum is slightly lower because of my cams <doh> :]

are you trying to say that your sqv doesn't have a spring and a diaphragm inside? ...that's kind of how they work... lol. ...thats how ALL diaphragm atm type bov work.

yes it is a push pull. but what do you think keeps it closed at idle? ...the pressure of the spring acting against the vacuum.

why did you take apart a working bov anyway? lol

Cams make for a lower vacuum?Edit: Brain fart here too. I thought this only affected carb'd vehicles.

And the thing inside of the SSQV doesn't look like a spring in a typical BOV. It's really more of a lever type thing IMO.
