Hello All,
I purchased my very first Infiniti last month ('97 J30 w/113k miles), and all I can say is, WOW! Where have these cars been all my life?? I've always preferred Japanese, but somehow missed these until now. After test-driving numerous sedans, it was clear that this one is in a class all by itself.
So, after bringing this beauty home, I had a few things to take care of, one of which was the check engine light caused by a bad oxygen sensor. Which brought me to this forum, as I searched for the info I needed. Didn't find it here, so I thought I'd share what I learned in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
(I'm not a mechanic by any means, so please forgive my layman's descriptions.)
First, the best price I found for the correct replacement sensor was $99 w/free shipping at oxygensensorwholesale.com (dealership wanted $160). None of the local parts stores had them, and they wanted $130 to order.
My bad sensor was listed as code P0156 "Bank 2 Sensor 2", which is the driver's side rear sensor, behind the catalyst. It was easy to get too, just jacked up the car and removed the heat shield, then used an adjustable wrench and some WD-40. Problem was, the cable from the O2 sensor just disappears into the bottom of the car.
After removing the seat and not finding where the darn thing connects, we called around and learned that it connects underneath the center console. Removed a couple of screws, the console was out and we were able to unplug the old sensor and plug in the new one.
After about 5 starts, the check engine light went out and it passed emissions the next day. Hope that helps anyone who runs into the same issue.
Thanks!
