Ok guys dont laugh - I have never done this before....

97Q - tranny pan drop. Can anyone who has done this do a complete write-up on this. How many bolts are there to open to drop the pan. I see many small bolts (screws) around the base of the pan - do those have to be opened???

I dont want to screw up anything - I would appreciate a detailed write up by anyone who has done it recently.

I dropped my Y33's pan last year. In addition to the pan bolts (about 15 or so), I had to remove 2 or 3 other bolts for the fuel or brake line bracket (I didn't know if it was a fuel line or a brake line). The line [metal] was in the way of 1 or 2 pan bolts.

Do you have the manual and TSB? If not, go download them.

The manual doesnt help much in this regard...

The G50 has the same tranny (for all benefits and purposes) so any guides you find on the G50 will be identical to the Y33

The manual doesn't help... it gets into more complex stuff like checking hydrolic pressure and solenoids. Doesn't talk about a simple pan drop.

I want to do the drop this summer... I have never done it - just want to be safe than sorry

Pictures would be greatly appreciated

Theres some pics and a writeup.. Should be 99% the same..

What I would do next time that I didnt include in the article, is let the pan drain overnight.. Drain it when its hot, and then let it cool overnight. You dont want to work on the tranny when its hot, but ideally, youd like to get the fluid out while its hot....

Go every few hours and move the shifter to a different location.. I remember moving my shifter around, and every time i moved it the flood gates would re open. just when I thought i didnt have enough ATF in my hair!

Probably becasue it is so trivial for a technician. It really is very straight forward.

FSM without the TSB if only part of what you need.
