Hello,I have a 2004 FX45. 3 months old. I may have a problem.Only when downshifting from 3 gear to 2 to i get a LOUD clunk, hard hitting sound. It is concerning. It is also intermittent. Not related to temperature either i don't think.

I never get this CLUNK when up shifting in any gear. Only ever when goin from 3 to 2 gear...even at lo rpm <2000 rpm.

Mechanics, any help please.

Thank you

you should still be under manufacturers warrenty I think you should get it to the dealer and have them give it the once over. I have yet to hear anything about it.

Nistech,Thanks for yopur response. Today, I did not notice the clunk..but then again i was shifting down to 2 gear from 3rd from higher revs, say above 2000. Could it be that I was hitting a spot that troubled the computer ??thanks

Are you manually shifting the trans? Its an automatic right? You may be downshifting to early and it will have a harsh engagement.

Yes, this only ever happens in manual mode. Never happened in Auto. when you say too early...can you elaborate please.I have been using engine tone, usually shift in 2nd at around 2000 RPM or less......but clunk has happened at as little as 1800-1500.Thanks,

only

yea that is very low rpm for a harsh engagement. I Agree with you though it is most likely related to the TCM changing the line pressures in the trans during the shift. Have the dealer look at it. When you go in just remember the car has that feature so it can be used [ in case they give ya any flak over using that feature]

yea you need to take them out and show them what its doing first. TCM is "transmission control module" It may be incorperated into the ECM on the FX not sure. The murano its not.

I have manually downshifted many times into second from all rpms with no problems, noise, etcetera. Your FX has something not right. I shift manually over 50% of the time while in traffic without a problem. The only time I ever have a "Funky" noise, is if I upshift & then bump the shifter back accidently calling for a downshift before the transmission completes the upshift. Then, & only then I get a "clunk." I don't consider this a problem, simply a message from my FX45 to; "Make up your mind stupid!" Good luck.
