Hey guys-As far I know, I was the first to put on the FX45 20" wheels on a Y33, first with 225/30/20s (worried about clearance with 1" Eibach springs) and then 235/35/20s. Since, I've cracked 3 rims. They are crack on the inner lip, about an inch or two, just enough to leak out air. I'm up in Madison now, and the mix of the cold and overfilled tires (do not trust your local Jiffy Lube to put in the correct amount of air) may have had something to do with it, but in any case the lips of the FX45 20" wheels are prone to cracking with low-profile tires.Has anyone else had this problem?

WOW 3 rims ?? Geez.. those are serious rims too. Anyways, I doubt it has much to do with air pressure. Just think, it will damage the tire long before it damages the rim. What might be doing it is a combination of factors. Good quality Lo Pro's have much more rigid sidewalls and tougher beads. which means more stress on the edge of the rims. Plus the heat charachteristics of the inside of the tire might be part of it. Lastly, I would gues that the sidewalls, plus some small camber issues with the eibachs, combined just put too much stress on the rim edges. Sux..

I would be more concerned about the installation procedure used by your tire installer. Just a guess though...

I'm surprised that the factory FX wheels cracked like that, tho I'm running 245/35/20 on my car. With the smaller tire that you run, it makes sense that more vibrations and harshness would be transmitted thru the tire to the wheel itself.

I would bet it has more to do with driving conditions than it does the tires installed... You probably only have one or two hits on a pothole before it destroys the rims.

Particularly with low-profile tires that do not buffer the bump enough.

with 30 series tires there is simply not enough sidewall to absorb any shock from the road. Plus you have eibachs on the car making the suspension more rigid, so the rims are taking the brunt of the force. Imo factory 18's are the best bet for a q45, they are more practical for daily driving, I have fx35 factory wheels on my q with 245-45-18's and eibach's no problems what so ever.
