Does anyone know the widest tire that will fit on a 20x8 rim on an FX 35 without significantly changing the tire diameter. I run the stock 265/50R20, but am wondering if something like a 305/40R20 would fit.

Any help will be appreciated...

Joe

In a 305 width the best you can do is a 45 aspect sidewall and requires a 9.5" wide wheel minimum.

I think your best bet would be a 275/45/20 and that would be pinched onto the rim (meaning the rim is slightly out of it's specified fitment range).

I'd suggest OEM sizing for the time being.

That would increase the rolling diameter considerably.

Stock is 265/50/20 which makes the diameter 30.43 While with 285/50/20 the diameter becomes 31.22

a .79" difference or 2.5% larger…is that really allot?

Yes, that is well beyond what we would put on the vehicle. I would stick to within 3/10" on the O.D. of the tire.
