Well this is my last resort, I've searched as much I can. I would just like to know much the fwd and rwd versions of the vq30de differ. Mostly I would like to know what can be swapped. Or, if anybody has a diagram of both engines, that be great, I can't find a manaul for the japanese rwd engine to get a good grasp of it.

So far I've picked up that the mounting is completely different, but is the actual engine different or is it just a different transmission and stuff. I'm deciding whether to build a vq30de or a vq35de, the vq35de being offerend in america as rwd makes it easier to get stuff. I just figured ifI knew what could be swapped around inside the vq30des it would be easier than trying to source stuff from japan.

Sorry to ask such a nub question, the closest thing I found to an answer was that a 350z transmission would fit the fwd vq30de, but I didn't find anything other than one post saying that, so I don't want to take it as fact from just that. Though I can't even find the post anymore, so I could've just imagined it.

Cool, thanks guys. Was just hoping there might be a chance, figured I'd ask to find out. I'm just going to build it. I'm going to start college after summer so I hope to be done about the time I graduate college. I'll probably put it in my 240, then again, by then I might do something different. I know a guy that goes to japan a good amount, he's picked up wheels and stuff for his son, I figured I'd just get him to find me a block for a vq30de and ship it here.

I do have another question though, has anybody heard anything about destroking a vq35de? Preferably, how far down I could go. I'd like it around 75, I think it's stock at like 81.5 or something, was a weird number.

So far on deciding between the vq30de and the vq35de, the 30 is definitly cheaper, so that's a really good thing, plus the stroke is shorter and the bore isn't too much different. However, the 35 is newer and having the vvt stuff would be nice. The 35 also has a little bit bigger bore, but the differnce isn't big enough to matter to me. Plus I figure since the 35 is in the 350z and g35 (which will be going into the gtr soon) it should get a lot of aftermarket **** for it.

Anybody else have any major stuff I'm missing? I'm sure there's plenty, I'm not too worried about mounting, it'll suck for both engines, so I just considered it equal. As far as money goes, I'm raping the army for as much money as I can get. So I'm not really spending mine.

The stroke of the VQ35DE is 81.4mm and there really is no reason to de-stroke one.

The Z33 transmission bolts right up to the block but the oil pan bolt holes don't match up. The FWD motor has the starter on the transmission side. To solve that you get an upper oil pan off a Z33 as well. I'm currently in the process of putting this combo together. If you go this route you have several clutch options. The route I'm taking with the clutch is to use a Maxima clutch, flywheel assembly and use a spacer on the TOB to make the Z33 arm push in far enough onto the pressure plate. Then, since you use a Z33 oil pan you need a Z33 starter. Finally, the RWD VQ35 has the windage tray secured to the cage while the FWD VQ30 has it secured into the oil pan. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that one. I'll probably frankenstein the windage tray out of the FWD pan because I don't want to mess with unbolting the cage and buying a brand new VQ35 windage tray($$$) only to run the risk of it not fitting on the 3.0 cage. Other than that you should be all good.
