i am putting in a sr into my friends s13, and part of payment is a fwd sr20 turbo. i am trying to find out some info on the motor as i am a rwd sr guy and dont know much. is the motor code still sr20det? it has a transmission with it, and he said its an awd transmission. it doesnt have any manifolds or turbo but its a complete block and head. so my main questions are......1. the bottom end is stronger than a rwd sr, correct?2 what is the exact motor code(so i can do some searching on this motor)3. they made an awd transmission for these correct?4. what do the blocks and head and transmission combo usually go for?5. what is the easiest way to find out if it is indeed an awd transmission.

sorry for the overload of questions. and if anyone is interested....i have this stuff for sale! at least once i find some stuff out about it first. thanks alot for any help guys.

Both rwd/fwd motors are pretty similar on visual inspection. Neither is stronger than the other, unless you get a GTiR motor. There are a few different types of Transverse motors: U12(bluebird), U13(bluebird), Avenir & GTiR. All transverse SR's have AWD's, they are useless to us American folk though. Most just trash them if they happen to get one with the motor. A Transvers SR block without any turbo/manifold or injectors normally run for around 700-800 for a bluebird and avenir, around 1k for the GTiR.

1. If it's got an AWD transmission, I suspect it's a GTi-R motor (though that's not necessarily true), in which case it's built quite stoutly. The easiest way to tell will be the head, as it will have solid rather than hydraulic lifters. Otherwise I don't think there's much of a difference in bottom end strengths.

2. SR20DET

3. GTi-R, and I do believe there were AWD Bluebird DETs as well. edit: RED got this bit.

4. Without turbo, $500-750 I suspect. Stock non-GTi-R DETs go for roughly $1k or a nudge over that with the turbo and such.

5. An AWD transmission would be larger and have a housing extending back into the tunnel that any USDM Sentra/200SX/G20 won't have. If it has an AWD transmission, start pulling that sucker off and find yourself a B15 LSD FWD transmission, there is not a single known AWD-converted USDM Sentra even amongst the handful of deep-pockets that care.

easiest way to tell if its gti-r is they have itb's but yes, also the solid lifter setup, aswell. gti-r turbos are usually good to around ~350hp
