i was watching the battle between the ITR and the S14 and someone on AIM brought up the fact the rear rims were 15" and the front were 16".

Is there a reason for this? mabie help with understeer?

Most of the time they are just drag car wannabe's...but yeah, less weight/rolling resistance. Reverse of why muscle cars run pizza cutters in the front and giant slicks in the rear.

"battle" could this be a touge battle as seen on Best Motoring international video?

Better tires are still available in optimum sizes for 16" it's been that way for a while. I too have seen the ITR set up with a wider and larger wheel in front, no doubt a by-product of seeking ultimate grip, which can be had by competition tires in 16", and not having to sacrifice response.

light, sticky, and 16" :rockon

not really and yes.

FWD especially for DRag would want wider, higher grip in the front. Rear isnt that important and skinny gripy tires in the rear will do. remember - small/skinny=less weight.

weight and Rotating mass reduction are 2 reasons. everything else is bull****.

They're running a wider wheel in front, just like RWD cars will run a wider wheel in the rear. I guess more tire sizes are available in 16" sizes, and they might want a stiffer(shorter) sidewall.

We're not talking about drag racing here guys, these cars actually turn once in a while. ;)

It's also a fairly decent way to get a FWD car to rotate around a corner without running an extremely high spring rate in the rear.

So NO, everything else is not bull.

Most of the import TuNeRz only care to immitate the drag racers. You just spend too much time at the tracks. ;)
