Quote »ian please dont get mad at me for asking or making those other assumptions, but look at it fromt another angle maybe you caused the damage from DETing and didnt know it[/quote] That thing was knocking before it did this! It's looks like more of an abuse deal with an extreme amount of pressur on the motor. That's why when you guys get your motors, yo can do your own compression test before getting the engine into the car by simpling removing the coilpacks and adding 13volts to the starter. Letting the motor sit awhile before attempting to do anything is a recipe for trouble. That's why most engine importers give you a 30 day start-up warranty. Take the spark plugs out, get a mag lite and do a light inspection of the crown of each piston. If your engine is too clean, someone is hiding the smell of a "Rat". Expect some oil on the valve covers and around those areas that are prone leak a bit under normal operation. Don't be afraid to turn the crank to check for smooth operation. And most importantly, don't get played with these motors. The average importer know nothing about a CA18DET or the contents of it nor do they know the abuse these things are prone to. WE know them for revving really high, what do you think those Japanese folk did when they owned it " Drove like an old lady":) . The bottom line is, if and when you guys spend money on these motors, you have to give them a full cavity search and be wary of the turbo crapping it's seal. A smart fool will get a rebuild almost immediately. A foolish fool will just take their chances with what they got and may very well get away with it for a while, but will get "Got" eventually. These engines are not new! I would say that AWD version that I use will tend to have less abuse on them and are in better shape than the RWD versions, but I don't let my guard down. And even though I buy my engines from my friend, he still doesn't warrant the turbo for me or no one and this I accept. The FWD turbo and manifold is just as hard to remove as the RWD and I know this because I've had the opportunity to experience both and they both drink major donkey "Cum" . So inspect your investments well and dot all "I's" as well as cross all "T's" before installing these motors in your car. Don't get yoked-out because you own a CA18DET and the importer says it has low miles on it. That's the worst line I've heard yet. If they tell you it has HKS cams, valve springs, GREX pistons, etc, are you going to believe them without opening it up? You all have been briefed.
