Ive been searching the forums but could not find any topic related to my problem so if you guyz have time, please give me ur opinions. I currently own a 89 240sx with 130Kmiles on the motor and 160k on the chassis. At low rpms, i say about 0-3000K it makes this fuzzy crackling sound. The higher the RPM and gear, the dimmer it gets and starts to fade. Any ideas? Could it be my belts? timing adjustment? thank you for your time guyz.

Your description of the sound needs to be a little bit more detailed. If it sounds like a crackling sound it could be your plug wires arcing. Open the hood at night and start your engine. If you see blue sparks coming from your wires replace them. It could be that at higher RPMS you just cant hear the "fuzzy" sound because of road noise and your engine taching up. Other than that I believe we would need a better description than fuzzy. One last Silly question- is your radio turned off when you hear this sound.

its not the plug wires, i just got them replaced. Yes the radio is turned off, you can still hear it when its on. The crackling sound is like...rice crispies i guess.. u know how it crackles when u put milk on it.. its like that. I cant really tel where the sound is exactly coming from since i can only hear it while driving, if i rev it in neutral it wont do it

sounds like something is arcing. check all your high voltage electrical stuff, make sure it's all still good.

Try this, pull the fuse for the radio to ensure there is no power going to the radio or speakers. You might be picking up power noise on your speakers. If that doesnt work, rev your engine at night an look for the arcing.
