I'm in the market for new tires for my 95 Nissan 240sx... just doing some research now so I welcome any suggestions. I do 80km/day highway driving so treadwear is an issue. I don't really want to replace the tires every summer. The guy at the tire place near here mentioned Fuzion tires will be in stock soon and might fit what I'm looking for. Since they are a new brand, I'm kindof unsure. Has anyone here tested them out? He also suggested Toyo Proxes TPT.

Any words of advice are appreciated :)

Thanks.

The TPT is a great tire, but a bit costly. That higher price means better performance, so it might be worth it to give the Toyo tire a shot. You'll like 'em.

The TPT is $172CDN installed & balanced... not too bad I guess. I was originally looking at the Michelin Pilot Sports... but decided not to 'cuz of the miles that I put on.

Thanks for your input!

The Fuzion is a brand new tire line from Bridgestone/Firestone. We have not had a chance to do any testing on these yet so I don't know first hand how they will be. They are targeted at the 'tuner market' as an affordable entry-level tire. I'll post some details once I have the chance to get them on the street and on our test track. We should start our testing program up in the next couple of weeks.

Tiererack only shows one size for the Fuzion currently ... 205/55-16 in a 91W load index and speed rating. This does not fit many Nissan and Infiniti needs, I would think (although my wife's Acura 2.2CL is a candidate :) ).

"affordable entry level" tires? This gives the youth another chance to skimp on safety items they already take for granted/don't understand.

Next will be affordable entry level brake upgrade kits... with economy friction material...

Just a small :rant ranting, I've had to sell plenty of cheap tires to customers, and it really does wear down your confidence in the tire buying public. People really are broke/jobless, I guess.

I have no problem spending the extra $$ on quality. If the Fuzion's are less quality for basically the same price, I'll get the Toyo's or another similarly price/quality tire. My initial budget was about $800CDN installed.

"I've had to sell plenty of cheap tires to customers, and it really does wear down your confidence in the tire buying public."

yeah, I hear this line a lot "well, if the michelin doesnt have a mileage warranty...why do I want it? the X brand tire is half the pice and has a mileage warranty..I mean, where does michelin get off asking for so much money for their tires?!?!"(if you knew the cosntruction and how well they do, you wouldnt *****..)or:

" so the car came with a 149mph tire...well, I dont drive 149mph, so the cheaper(h rated, say) tire is fine, yes, I understand it will affect performance, but I dont need it anyways..."(you'll need that 40ft of stopping distance when you least expect it ****head...)

*sigh*people compromise the only thing contacting the road on their cars far too often for my liking, tires are the "forgoten tire expense" to most the public, they dont realise cars wear them out(or forget it) and are so uninformed about the products and implications that they only choose things based on mileage warranties and cost 90% of the time...

/end rant

michelin pilot sports are AMAZING tires IMHO...but if you're going for a mileage thing over performance...i suggest somethign like kumho ecsta supras or something...they're cheap and tehy're decent tires...you can get them for like 100 a piece i'm pretty sure

My point was not that they are making a shoddy quality tire. They are trying to make a less agressive tire line that wears better, looks 'cool' (for the ravers :ylsuper ) at a lower price point than the normal Bridgestone performance line. From what we have seen of the tires, they look like they will be like the entry level Kumhos, Yokohamas, or Sumitomos. No dual layer compounds or max traction. Just good basic wet and dry tires for someone looking for an inexpensive longer wearing Summer tire.

Others companies have exclusive pricing, among other things. There's about a dozen variables that cannot be discussed without a thesaurus and a whole bunch of links to tire industry news websites, but it usually comes down to which companies can get what kind of pricing on how many hundreds of thousands of tires at a time.... TIRERACK has a great lineup though. Probably the best around, as far as I can tell.
