Hey everyone

I've found most of the parts i need to build my CA when the funds apply. But i just have a few questions on some things.

1. Is the CA18DET an interference fit engine?

2. Do the Tomei Solid lifters drop in w/ shimming?

3. Will i need special pistons because of too much valve lift? (9.25 intake : 10.25 exhaust : 260degrees each)

These are the major questions i have. If i have more that i can't figure out, i'll post back. Im going to try my hardest to build one badass CA, but im in no hurry lol Thanks everybody.

Hi mate,

1. No it isn't, you still bolt the motor in...

2. No you need the shims to set valve clearance (thermal expansions and such).

2. I assume you are going to purchase forged pistons, but no you don't need any special pistons to use those specs.

If you are going to use solid lifters, you need to ensure you use a solid cam profile, and you will need to change the valve springs to suit the new lift specification...

Cheers,

Matt

hey thanks Matt, yea i plan on getting all that good stuff.

so i wont have to worry that if my timing is off at one point when tuning the motor that the valves won't hit the piston right? thats pretty much my BIG worry

Nono, it's definitely an interference engine (dunno what the "fit" is doing there but it ain't no thang) if your timing belt is off/breaks you run a very good chance of ruining some valves.

k thats what i wanted to know lol. So that being said, with having high lift in the valves, should i get pistons with the little indentations for the valves? (forget what they call them)

Most piston brands will have valve head recesses...

Unless your considering using 11+mm lift I don't think you will have a problem with piston->valve clearance with the majority of brands..
