Alrighty so in this journey of replacing IAC, repaired ECM, I am now having a blown #24 fuse problem - it's a tiny little 7.5A that is now continuing to pop - obviously a ton of accessories on this fuse that I may have to run down - however thought I would see what common reasons would be for this short circuit are??

Any ideas / suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Lots of things are routed through that fuse in some way or another:
  • Headlamps
    Parking / License / Tail
    Fog Lamps
    Turn Signal / Hazard
    Illumination
    Interior Lighting
    Meters & Gauges
    Rear Window Defogger
    Audio Antenna
    Automatic Drive Positioner (Seat)
    Door Locks
    Remote Entry
    Alarm System
    Homelink
Checking bulbs for shorts / bad sockets will probably be the easiest thing to check first.

When does the fuse blow? Turning accessory on? Turning ignition on? Turning lights on? Something else?

Appreciate the interest Chuck - So the fuse pops literally as soon as I plug in the fuse box - no key in the ignition, so I am not sure what it could be?

That would simplify things a lot, at least on a 2001, since most of the things the fuse supplies are on the other side of the ignition key. IIRC, the only thing on a '01 that isn't switched is the power antenna. I'll have a look through an '02 FSM later.

Fuse 24 goes to the following places:

Ignition switch
Smart Entrance Control Unit
Security LED
Combination Meter (instrument panel)
Electric Antenna

I'd inspect each of these things first.

Thanks Chuck - One of the mechanics that I know looked at it this morning & unbeknowst to me, put a larger fuse in Space 24 and when he did, he said he saw the Smart Entrance Control Unit spark up (?!! - right?)....in any case, I guess that is the culprit - I will try to find one on-line or in a junk yard and will post back - Given that this one of the possibilities from the above posts, I will assume for now that it was the issue.

Just wanted to end this one as well - It ended up being the SECU - so I replaced that now I have a new code....off to the searching...
