I work the midnight shift, and take the same route through the city as usual. This time howver, there were about 8 young guys in the middle and side of the street blocking the few cars on the road. An Acura TL was in front of me. We were just about stopped when these guys started banging on the cars and jumping on their rooves. The TL immediately pulled off to the side street, and I followed. Two of the guys started running after us. The TL was going too slow, and the guys are starting to close in on my car. I dropped it over to DS, blew past the TL and tore up the street on the opposite side. By the time I hit the cross street my car was at 5k rpm. It's like it hadn't shifted

Now I don't know if the DS didn't shift, or if I had my hand on the shifter and thought I was back in a manual transmission, and downshifted instead of hitting a mythical 4th gear.

Has anyone had any issues with DS not shifting correctly?

Thanks

For some reason, I find it strange that you were almost attacked in the road and the only thing you are worried about is your transmission???

+1. I would have been running some bamas over that night...anyway, in DS, the car doesn't upshift like in regular mode, it holds gears, so you'd be moaping at 5k or so naturally. Next time, just take over with the paddles and shift when you want it.

It is normal to hold the revs up... Don't be surprised if it happens at higher speeds and holds the revs around 7k... It seems to be getting better since I started playing around with it you will learn what it wants for pedal input to make it shift. And BTW... This is one of the reasons I carry a gun at all times.... My old home town was pretty rough and I have seen enough people get shot to know there are way more reasons to carry than not. I would have ran too but if you couldn't get away.... What would you have done?

This is also why I never pull up behind a car at a red light or stop sign without leaving enough room to pull around the front car. It's a common practice to box people in and just carjack them... At least in bad city area's.

I'm sure you notified the proper authorities....

I agree. I always try to leave a way to escape. When I had my 'vert, I never put the top down till I got out into a nicer part of town. I work in the MAJOR HOOD!

First, thanks for the info about the transmission.

Yes. Called the police.

About being more worried about the transmission than myself, it was the oddest thing. As soon as I saw them hopping on the cars in front of me, all I could think about was them F-ing up my car. I've thought about it, and I just can't seem to get the personal threat to out-weigh the threat of damage to my G. Even I think that's a case of some embarassingly skewed priorities.

The odd thing is, I never thought to lock my drivers door. Ironically, it was my questionable priorites that prompted me to act, coincidentally saving my person in the process.

As for the general threat, this sort of thing is bound to happen once every so often, especially in a city at night. I guess the best defence is to be thinking ahead, as was suggested.

Thanks for the input

A long time ago, I was traveling a rural road with my children. My son was about 5, my daughter still an infant. I came apon a work crew of inmates working on the roadway. They evidently had no supervision because they started walking into the road so I couldn't get through. I backed up and punched it. (Had an '86 Camaro at the time). I thought if you stupid bast*rds want this car, you are going to get it at 80 mph!! They cleared off the street an let me pass.

I can understand thinking about the car but you could have been seriously f'd up too. Car insurance is better than health or life insurance IMO!

I remember years ago I was approached by a handful of teenagers with knives in a parking lot.. my car was stuck and they were honking for me to get out of the way (instead of driving around me) When I got out of the car they did as well, with knives in hand.. a little verbal confrontation then they suddenly jumped in their car and sped away. A moment later I turned around and saw a cop car stopped at a nearby light.. he was oblivious to the situation. Had I known he was there I would have shouted out for help and busted those punks.

After that I carried a knife in the car for a few years but better to avoid such situations when possible!

Another time I was cruising down a main street when suddenly a couple guys fighting with each other.. and they moved into the street. I got stuck in the middle and they ran circles around my now-stopped car. Then one idiot decided to jump up & body-slam my hood as he dodged away from the other guy. Later I learned who he was and that he was a little loose in the noggin.. thankfully no dents.
