Ok so my first experience with my 240. I'm coming home from work at about 5:10 today and have to take an upcoming turn. (It is rainy and grey out, weather is awfull) Alright I'm in third and it's a wide turn and theres a stop sign for oncoming traffic. So I turn and as I'm turning phone rings, I answer and my car tells me thats a bad idea.... I spun like a 270 and drifted about 25 yards in the opposite lane. Thank god nobody was there or I would be very unhappy. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Seriously though...my 240 is the absolute WORST car to drive in ANY type of rain...I have Pirelli all season tires on my car right now with the stock 15" alloys, and the tires have TONS of tread left, so that's not the issue. I took the spare tire and jack out of the trunk, which I know makes the rear end slip out easier, but STILL, it shouldn't slip out THAT easy...I'm going to start putting in the jack/tire for rain. Anyway, I'm going to work, at a stop sign, making a 90 degree left turn up like a 30 degree inclined hill. I've learned the hardway how tail happy my car is, and I drive it ridiculously slow and under revved and exaggerate every move when its raining. So anyway, I make the left turn, shift from first into second at like 2500 rpm, the car's lugging up the hill, I slowly and gently give it gas to get it up to 3000 before i shift so it won't bog horribly, and at like 2750 the rear tires, sure enough are spinning and the rear end starts slipping! I can't stand it! I was so careful and my car still started spinning! Hopefully my yoko paradas will be better in the rain!

That...

sucks.

Does anyone else have the same problem as MarkEmark? Is this something to do with the car, or is his just "special?"

It must be just my car because i'm putting out insane amounts of earth thundering horsepower to them rear wheels...! Just kiddin! I do have hot shot headers, no cat, really good cold air intake and tanabe cat back exhaust, plus, I'm pretty light (140lbs...), and Like i said...no jack/tire in the back. I don't know if the size of my stock wheels (15" and only 6" thick, but the tires are pretty wide, 205 series, and the fact that the wheels are light -15lbs...) I hope my 17" x 7" enkei and yoko parada 215's will help at least a bit!

I have driven lots of RWD cars (FWD too) and in my experience FWD dont have quite as much an advantage on RWD when it comes to bad weather traction, as many seem to think.

The most important item are always teh tires.A RWD car with say Blizzaks (dedicated winter tires NOT all seasons) will often out-trac an AWD SUV on All season tires. This has been my experince when I lived in MN for several years.

Also Police cars are all RWD, yet they dont have significant traction problems in winter, the combo of LSD and winter tires can make all the difference.

my car does the samething in the rain...i have khumo's all the way around and they spin through 3rd gear even when im not trying to and they are 225's...but they might do that because when the light turns green i like to take off like a bat-outta-hell.:D

i don't know, i think you fellas are special....never really had a problem with spinning the wheels (unintentionally) but it like palmerwmd said...tires and an LSD will do wonders. however FWD do have an advantage in bad weather conditions.

i don't know maybe your tires sucks....your too abupt with the clutch....ida know....maybe you guys just have natural talent to drift? heheh.

yesterday going up a steep hill from a stop light my friend in his s10 5 spd did a nice little peel out so I figured I'd try being cool too. Of course its raining out and im right behind him so I did it to, first gear everything shook so ****ing much it threw my hand off from the shifter.

Tino:

hope you take no offense man, but you either had wheel hop ( MUST avoid in the interest of your car) or didn't engage the clutch properly.

If it's #2: practice, practice, practice before you race, or you gonna really hurt your transmission, if you try to race before you are good with your transmission.
