So, I have this smell of rubber or something coming from the left rear wheel. I'm not sure what it is or why it's there. The tire spins freely as it should and I can't see anything visually wrong. Any guesses???

Questions...

Does it smell when you drive or did you notice it when you got out of the car? Are sure it smells like rubber? Have you done hard braking recently? Did you actually take off the tire and inspect it?Is/was your e-brake partially up? <- One time I got a smell coming from the rear once and it was because my stupid self forgot to put the e-brake all the way down and I drove around for about 5 min. until I realized what happened.

I smell it when I'm outside of the car. When I get out and park, I smell it by the left rear. I even check the right rear, but I don't smell it there. No, the parking brake is not on. (This is my first automatic, always aware of e-brake) I'm not sure if it's rubber, but it sure does smell like it. I have yet to take off the wheel. I should do that today.I haven't noticed any conspicuous tire wear issues either...

i was gettin a smell form my right rear wheel after driving my car....

i couldnt tell what it was until i got down and took a closer look.

my caliper was dragging. the e-brake assembly was not resetting itself when i released the e-brake. i took off the caliper and took apart the e-brake assembly on the caliper. i turned the pin a couple times with a 11mm wrench and put it back together. works fine now. (i wouldve bought a new one but this one was 3 weeks old)

That could be something, considering I just had my rear brakes done at my mechanic.

probably the case... new pad, but the e-brake is in the drum of the rotor... the 240 has two kinds of brakes for the rear... disc for the main stopping and a drum brake for the e-brake..just an FYI for ya... did he replace the rotors on the rear, resurface them, or just throw pads on?.. if he took them off he may have forgot to adjust the e-brake or didn't get them both done equally.

Yeah, he put on new pads and rotors. I'll bring it back there this week.

it may be cause the pads are new and thick, i installed new pads on my coupe a while back and i had to drive it for a while to break them in..after that never smelled it again. It even smoked before.
