Funny Idling

I got a 96 240, totally stock. Only had this car since Aug so i am not familiar with it. When idling, sometimes the arrow goes up and down between 750 and 250rpm then goes back to 750. it will do that sometimes for about 10 sec. also if i turn the heat level to 1 and put it on window setting, the idling goes up to about 900rpm then hit floor setting and it drops low and does the prev problem.any ideas on that?

check your injectors and for any loose vaccuum hoses. there may be a leak. my car did that too i replaced the injectors and its better now

im not gonna touch the idling problem, try searching...

The idle should go up when you put the front window defrost on because the AC is kicked on with that setting. It chills the air then passes it through the heater core before spitting it out of the vent. The cooler helps take the moisture out of the air (helps it defrost better). When the AC kicks in the engine speed raises so the AC compressor can work better. You can test this by putting the climate control to normal vent, put the temp slider to cold, and press the AC button.... the engine should behave the same.

fuel filter, plug wires, plugs, and this may sound crazy but one of my friends nissan altima had a leaky valve cover gasket and oil got in the distributor and just needed cleaned out along with a new valve cover gasket.
