Thought you guys would like this...

So I'm at autozone today, picking up some undercoating (for interior) when I get to talking to the guy who's working there. I mentioned to him that I have a 240, so he ask's me, what am I going to do with it.

I tell him, well, I was thinking about building the KA and turboing it....to which he procedes to tell me how bad of an idea that is....cylinder walls are too thin, not made for boost, more bs, etc.

Then he tells me how his friend blew a rod after 700 miles on his turbo'd KA with a built bottom end ...."these motors just weren't made for boost' was his reply..

Then, he tells me that he's going to supercharge a honda civic si, and that's his Mustang convertible out in the lot

haha, that explained a little bit!!

Just thought I'd share that with everyone, it gave me a good laugh!!

(by the way, still planning on turboing the KA!)

if someone said that to me I would of walked back in there after i got done laughing about him outside and I would of bitched him out and told him how stupid he was and would of been yes you are stupid for working at auto-zone because your probably so stupid you can't get a real automotive job. hahha that's what i would of done.

he was probably screwing with you... i get a feeling the autoblown guys get off on stuff like that, and they probably joked about it after you left.

either that or hes just an idiot.you should go back and give him the link to ivan's 718whp page.

nah, I don't think he was messin with me, because he did proceed to tell me how much better the sr20 is and how I should just swap that in instead.....but yea, I did read about Ivan's car, I think I'll bring that up the next time I go to Autozone (for parts for the DD regal)

Just goes to show that a whole lot of people still don't know what that motors capable of.

My vote is for him being an idiot!

LOL speakin of the zone... i called up there earlier today asking to rent a pilot bushing removal tool. the guy couldnt even speak fuking english! had no idea what i was talking about and just mumbled non english shlt. i just said nevermind and hung up. everyone that works at the zone, advance, or napa have no clue what the **** theyre talking about. they have a computer and ask you questions and get the part number. it tells you if they have it or not. no knowledge needed what so ever. and another story, i was at advance a week ago looking for a 12 pt 10mm for the oil squirters. i asked some older lady, the only person i could find on the floor, if they carried 12 pt sockets. she had no idea wtf that was. i ended up explaining it to her and showing her the 6pt on the sockets they had. she thought i meant 12 mm, and even after i explained to her what it was she kept pointing out random shlt asking is this it. you cant rely on anybody these days. there are the few old timers youll run into that actually do have a clue, but thats a 1 in 100 chance around here.

i have some good stories about it, 1 of those bein somebody too that said "get a sr20, ka's aren't good", or "you gettin an sr20 later on?".

this once a friend took his ka head to get checked/milled @ a o'reilly autoparts, when we came back to pick it up, we asked 1 of the guys there that we were there to pick up the head, and he was like "a cylinder what?", then he went to where they have it and he was again "what was it?, a cylinder what?", and he also asked my friend's name twice, lol.

yeah some people there just don't know what they're talking about.

2 days ago i went to a autozone and asked if they had a thermoswitch, the dude was like "a thermoswitch? whats that for?", he asked a couple other guys there to help him out till 1 actually knew what it was.

I used to work at Advance, and let's just say that these guys spend too much time in their magazine rack. And unfortunately, sometimes that means Super Street.

They attacked me with questions when I went up there to get turbo parts. Going through their different fittings etc. I couldn't even remember what I went up there for. Usually there is only 1-2 people that know anything there.

I haven't had horror stories from autozone or o'reilly's, but I must say that buying from small mom and pop shops is a much better experience. The people are more knowledgeable and make for better conversation. +1 for them.

And to add my story:I went into Ace hardware looking for bolts to secure my turbo to my manifold. So i walk in with my NEW equal length tubular manifold and walk straight for the nuts/bolts isle and it was only about 30 seconds b4 this old man looks at me and says.. "looks like someone is building a rice rocket"Immediately i look at him and say excuse me..?? He said, you heard me... you damn hispanics running those damn fwd honda's with those loud as* mufflers speeding up and down the road thinking your fast....So i asked him, do you even know what this is.?? He said.. an exhaust manifold.. and i said for what... he said.. beats the sh*t out of me... all those damn imports all use the same crap... then he says.. i got a 69 camaro that will whoop your little fwd's as*. Meanwhile he is creating a scene there at the isle with the store clerk helping him and laughing WITH him at me... So i just go to the manager and tell him that he lost my business cause of rude customers and cause his employee was not helping the situation. So i get out to the parking lot and get into my RWD NISSAN 240sx and see the old man getting into his 69 camaro and is having trouble keeping it started... So i pull up to him and yell, when you can keep it running, we'll race and you can tell me how my tail lights look as i pull away from your POS. Ill tell ya, there are some ignorant muther f*ckers out there..!!

by far i dont even waste my time going to autozone.........usually advance and then bennet. i will say that even getting sparkplugs is a pain as if u get a "rookie", they need xyz part number and the whole info about ur car. u cant just give them the part number and then have them look it up sometimes when they feel like being a prick. as for any of those experiences, i took my manifold to lowes when look for bolts and nuts..................grade 8 ss bolts and nuts as far as the eye can see lol.

The best is when you go into one of the highway tire shops (you know the one I'm talking about) and ask them how much for 245 35 18's and they ask you what car you're driving, you say you have after market wheels and they ask what year and proceed to look it up. I say it's not stock, and they oh we don't have it then and behave ignortantly. Needless to say, I don't ever walk into to tire places I've never worked before since then. Besides there are only a few places I know I can go to that can get a lift under my car without ramps...Haha...

Some places here arent too bad. i try advoid autozone, instead go to like checker or another local parts place. however, every time, every single time i go there i have to wait becuase some kid in front of me is ordering headers or some exhaust part for his camero/firebird/whatever. i swear to you, every time.

what makes it even better is the part you order online is sitting right there but you need a counter help to assist you. there usually is another guy behind the desk but he's allways on the phone for 3 hours talking about some mysterious part, and punching one thousand keys

Which is a shame, because in reality, he is the one you probably want helping you. Speaking from experience. People used to ask for me, so they wouldn't have to deal with dip****s. Got to the point, where I had no part of my day left. Believe me, you feel that way as customers, I used to feel that way as a manager. You would get tired of having to answer stupid q's, like 'what's this', you would say, 'it's a fuse'. Or, 'how do I test this?', 'The G/D manufacturer of the tester gave you a fab book on how to do it, why the **** do you need me to tell you?!?!?' But I digress. Seriously, I get a lot of **** from a lot of people for being ASE certified for 'only' parts, but would you rather buy from a dip****?
