funny fuel gauge in old Q

Fuel gauge in my 91Q has been erratic. Reading goes from full to half normally. Needle then goes down to almost empty for 30 or 40 miles and then back to almost half. From then on it reads normally. Comments?

I have similar problem in my '92 Q, was told the fuel sending unit (float in tank) needs to be replaced.

Mine only freaks out at around 1/2 a tank and is otherwise normal, so I'm just used to it. Will replace whenever I have to replace fuel pump.

The part is $125 or so.

I just reset the trip odometer at each fill up and refill every 225-275 miles (15-18 gal of gas).
