Hi all posting again, I have a funky Gas gauge problem in my 1988 Nissan Pickup 2WD. The problem is that everytime I fill the gas to full tank the gauge will read full once engine is started but a couple of minutes on the road the Gauge goes to empty and them back to full for the whole duration of the ride back home from the service station. This is been going a for a while and i never had the time to address this question to the forums till now. What do you guys think that causes this problem ? could it be the fuel sender unit or fuel gauge itself? As for the temperature gauge When engine is hot after driving the temperature gauge goes up only a tiny bit over the "C" Marking on the gauge It seems to me that this is a common problem for all you Hardbody owners out there? is there any way I can fix that? like is it the Temp gauge itself? or the Temp sensor by the thermostat? any help is welcome

So the fuel gauge only does it immediately after filling up (meaning no other time throughout the tank)? If that's the case, it's probably the sending unit, or maybe something else getting hung up in the tank/shorting out.

The temp gauge sounds like a thermostat. Do you have really weak heat?

Yeah maybe around 10-20 minutes into the drive the gauge starts falling and then stops at 1/2 tank and then full then it repeats again and again and about the heat its pretty weak you can touch the block after driving it and you won't get burnt so yeah maybe thermostat

I have the same issue with my 88 Pathfinder. Both the temp and fuel gauges dance together like synchronized swimmers. I determined it to be the 8v voltage regulator, part #24866-54A00. You can buy it at NissanPartsUSA.com for $49 or there's instructions on how to build your own with parts from Radio Shack for $6-8 which you can find on the Internet. Good luck. Hope this helps.
