Post

My 1st post but have been lurking for a while and here is how i want to contribute. I emailed Function & Form about the possibility of making coilovers for the Altima Coupe and this was thier response
Thank you very much for your email. We get requests all the time from enthusiasts that would like us to make suspension for their vehicles. We would need to see what type of interest there is in potentially doing this. If the demand is great enough, we may consider looking into possibly bringing out a coilover application for the Altima. Again, this depends on the demand out in the market. What are the other options for the Altima consumers currently?

We look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you again for considering Function & Form as your source for coilovers.

Best Regards,

Depending on price and if I'm gonna keep my car I'd buy em. Always good to have more options though

Hey Bro first off welcome to NICO and I appreciate your enthusiasm about parts for our Coupe cause we definately need more mods,,,,,,,, but unfortunately this is not exactly how things work. :frown:

Since Greg has created this great website for all of us to enjoy for FREE
Function would have to become a NICO sponsor in order for a group buy to happen.

David, this is just an interest thread to see if the company would think about fabbing the product...

if a groupbuy time scenario comes around, then thats when you have to worry about sponsorship comes into play ;)

Yeah but how does one "get to" making that money? The company in question has to see interest first otherwise it's pointless for them to get a sponsorship. That's like making a blind investment. I could totally understand if they had ALREADY developed the product and were attempting to market it on here but they have nothing for us yet thus they gain nothing at this point in time.

Ranga, Im pretty sure the company is more than than welcome to gauge interest and come on our website but...... I think Greg wants to be involved in the process. As long as they talk to him, say something like Hey I would like to see how many people are interested in Coils for the Altima coupe and if there is enough interest then I will develop them and I will make sure that you (Greg) will get a cut since you provided the median where I gained new customers.....

I cant explain it as well as Darryl can but here is why.... :)

dangeris wrote:However creating interest threads for a perspective products for our cars can be detrimental to the existence of NICO.

Let me explain.

Scenario:
A forum members see a product which they think would benefit the Nico Community. So they start an interest thread to "gauge" interest. They then go back to the company and say, "hey, I have X amount of people interested. what can you do" The company sees the demand and comes back with an amount and the group buy begins or the members contact the company individually to make the sale. Either way its a win for the company and a loss for NICO.

HERE LIES THE PROBLEM:

After the purchasing is over, NICO is left with Nothing! That's right..NOTHING

Essentially what just happened is that the company was able to sell the products to the forum members (you and I) and make a profit without having to pay a NICO a dime. Look around the boarder of the webpage that you are reading. See those ads? Well those are sponsors that pay a fee to NICO to advertise so they can sell products/services to the NICO members. Each of those companies have a service or product that can benefit the NICO community and they realize that so they negotiate with NICO to advertise. When we create an interest thread, we are bypassing this crucial process. What?...do you think maintaining a forum is free? Do you think servers or disc space or bandwidth allocation to the site is free as well? Hells No! That cost money and it is funded by the paid sponsors on this site. I don't get paid being a moderator and there are a lot of staff on here that donate their time to this site and community because we want to be here. Because NICO is THE Best and Biggest Car forum out there! :mike

What Should Happen and how can we Help:

If we see a product that would benefit the NICO community, approach that company and say something like "you know, there could be a big demand for this product on the car forum I belong to. It's called NICO..Nissan Infiniti Car Owners. What? never heard of them? Well you should. Check them out at NICO.com and browse around. You should also really consider on becoming a sponsored vendor on the site and then you'll have access to the biggest nissan/infinti market base out there!" The company, if they are intelligent, should see this opportunity could be advantageous to their company. If they do become a sponsor, they should go to the perspective car forum and introduce themselves and tell the members what they do and what can they offer. Basically the company should be doing their due diligence, not us for them. When we create interest threads, we take that responsibility from them. We in essence did the research they should be doing ..for FREE!

I hope this clears up any and all questions regarding interest threads. If not, PM me and I will take the time to further explain if necessary.

Thanks Guys! :bigthumb:

Yeah, I've read it all before, just saying that these companies don't always know the process or care. A lot of the time it's more determined upon a sales pitch from the site owner rather than them coming here and inquiring.

DMSanchez how much did you get the coils for you old car?? I think $799.99 would be the price if they really wanted to move this product. But I dont know how realisitic that is......
