Anyone here ever use one of these on their pathfinder or other car? I just saw this on another site and it looks like a pretty cool gadget. Not like changing the oil is that hard of a task but just curious if anyone has used this before.

It's a solution in search of a problem.

Pull the plug and put it back, no big deal.

What you need is a punch in valve with a petcock to jam in the carcass of an oil filter. With a hose on this punched in valve oil changes are easier. Since you can collect the oil from an opened removed filter without doing a rust proof job of used oil onto your QX4.

If they made that Fumoto valve with a sharp press in that fit the oil filter I would buy it. The other reasons they give are nonsense. As Chuck stated, just pull the plug. Being under there gives you a chance to eyeball the bottom end and that exercise could be priceless!

Like Chuck said - might turn into a problem if it got knocked off -mess up the oil pan too.
VERY expensve.

OTOH - I have one on my inboard boat motor and it works great.

Yeah, I figured that it's just something bad waiting to happen. It would be easy for some foreign object to flip the lever and drain all the oil out.

Looks pretty convienient to me!!

And it would be almost impossible for that to get openned without you wanting to, you can see its got a spring loaded level and a resting spot for the handle in the closed position. You have to actually lift the lever out of the groove to turn it.

Id buy one if I gave a crap, but I dont spill oil everywhere

Interesting little gadget.

If it were $10, I'd buy one... $15 at most!
Not for $27... :(

But the oil drain plug on the R50's are at an angle facing the passenger side front tire. So I wonder if draining into a pan is viable. It seems like it'd shoot out a far distance, possibly getting all over the tires and not go into the pan.

Also, the hose-to-can makes it convenient, as my curbside recycling picks up bottles of used motoroil, and not having to force it into a pan and then transfer the oil from the pan into the bottle would save me 1 less thing to do.

So for me, it's primarily the price that keeps buying and using it.
Also, that I'm not usually in too much of a rush when changing the motor oil.

I'd think for sure the majority of off-roaders would avoid this. having something protrude out like that is risky.

I have no problem using a drain pan when draining my R50's oil. Removing the filter and not getting oil anywhere, on the other hand... I'll probably just start using two drain pans to avoid oil spillage.

The only bad thing is that your oil jug would still be full of new oil while you're draining the old oil, so you'd have to use another container to drain it into. :chuckle:

After checking out other forums, most people like them but some have had issues where the valve got knocked around a bit. Also I figure it would be easier for someone to just crawl under the car and drain the oil out. :chuckle:

I still prefer drain bolt.

Mine supplies the jug. Nice 2 gallon jug with a wide mouth. And a ziplock on steroids to put the filter in. Leave one
out, they leave a new one when they pick it up.

FWIW, I've got one on my QX4 and my Commander. Never had a problem with either of them, just a convenience item so they're only worth what YOU think they're worth.
