I have some parts interchange questions. I found two vendors that will sell me a fully counter weighted crankshaft for a Nissan KA. However, neither was specific if the crank was for a 3 valve or 4 valve engine. (I have to race a 3 valve, per the rules) Do the engines use the same crank? If not, what is the difference? thanks

No the crank shafts are different. The KAE crank shaft has a dizzy gear located on the snout of the crank for the oil pump, and dizzy (distributor) shaft. The KA24de snout does not use a dizzy gear. Also the snout is wedged to fit the oil pump in place which is attached to the front cover for ka24des.

Crank pulleys between the KAE and teh KA24de are different as well.

that and with a fully weighted crank you're going to have to take a few pieces out of the block

got this from turbo's magazine on their buildup of a 750+ ka-t.

it's a DE motor, but you still get the idea.

Turbo magazine is retarded. Technically you shouldn't be using a girdle for NVH. Individual main caps should be used on a fully counter weighted crank. It's going to be harder to make power with the girdle. Main bearing caps should be used from the KA24DE truck engines.

why wouldn't a girdle be better then just caps. the girdle adds to the structure of the block with or without a fully counterweighted crank. im all for a fully counterweighted crank and with that why would anyone need to swap in an sr.

i quess my question is how does the girdle make the block less effiecent???

^^ ya im curious too??the girdle should have no affect on the efficiency of the engine. plus you arent supposed to use main caps from a different engine. when they make the engine and bore the hole for the bearings, they do it with the caps on. this means that when you switch caps they are all going to line up differently. it could cause big problems.
