First of all, welcome to NICO's CA forum. You will that most of it's members and moderation team are willing to help you out in most cases. When you say full bottom end rebuild, we need to know exactly what's your interpretation of a full bottom end rebuild. Furthermore, why are you rebuilding your bottom end? Is the engine knocking, does it have blow-by, etc, etc. Give answers to some of these questions and you will get a response.

Thanks man...Well it started with blow buy then it moved on to a slight knock and now its a compression reading of 60 on the 3rd cyl..all others are at 145 so i guess shes just tired...what im looking for is pistons rings rods bearings and a metal head gasket i dunno how much of that can be bought in a kit or what il have to hunt for...but any and all ideas and suggestions will be taking seriously.....

Okay, if you want to get away from the stock rods, Carillo and Pauter has available units with Pauter being the cheaper at $740. Carillo's units are (last I checked) $1000. Pistons can be readily bought if standard bore is used for close to $500 and a little more if you wanted to go over standard. Oil pump runs about $170-$250 depending on where you get it from. Metal headgaskets from my source is $250. Bearings are pretty cheap, but it all depends on where you get them from as well.

Don't forget the cost of machining, to include line boring, honing, resurfacing, etc, etc. If you're goign to go this far, you may as well upgrade the head with new valve seals, port and polish, 3 angle valve job, and new cam seals. If you've already beefed-up the bottom end, you may as well buy you a nice set of cams from anywhere in between $400-$1000, some racing valve springs $250ish, a new water pump, timing belt, blah, blah.

I'm giving you realistic prices! I've already done these a few times over and it's not a cheap walk in the park. Figure out how much power you want to build and we'll give you a recipe to get that goal accomplished. You don't really need to do all that much rebuilding unless you're planning on going for the gusto.

For the machining prices, an align bore usually starts at around $140... honing is $5 per cylinder. Decking of the block is about $65. If the crank is out of round at all, it's around $70 to have it turned. If the block requires an overbore, thats another $10 per cylinder.

Depending on your power goals, a full aftermarket rebuild consisting of rods and pistons might be overkill. At least the rods anyway. If you will be making anything less than 400whp, I say the stock rods are fine. Just get them shotpeened and balanced. I am in the process of getting my bottom end redone to factory specs and I plan on posting a list of my procedures and costs for everything.

from what ive been reading 300whp is a pretty easy mark set buy almost eveyone here...im goin modest because this is still a daily driver, what im lookin for out of this is more of dependibility and reliability with good smooth linear useable horespower..knowing that what you guys think is a good user friendly set up.....
