I had all fluids replaced last week by local mechanic, brake fluid (DOT 4), power steering (synth), rear end (synth), complete transmission flush (Redline), along with a new battery, new capsules, and a few other little things (belts).

They cost was $750, my mechanic remarked, we changed all those fluids, many our out ahead of everythign in this car. I have now had the transmission flushed at 60k, flushed at 75k, dropped 11 quarts at 84k and completely flushed and replaced at 92k (all this took place over 7 years).

Well that was a little more than I thought I was spending, but you know I haven't had a mechanical issue with the Q yet other than worn out parts (shocks, springs, struts and torsion bars) and a gas door that popped open on its own (the only thing my extended warranty paid out).

These are as reliable as any car ever produced if you take care of them.

What about the radiator fluid and engine oil? Redline D4 atf also works well in the power steering system, fyi.

Sorry that was a given, I used my own redline to do the engine oil, it gets done every 3k or 6 months, since the Q is only used part time I rarely get more than 2k in 6 months. I had flushed the radiator about one year ago (and only 3k ago) in a separate set of work along with replacement of all the hoses (2nd time for that in 9 years). That was the 4th or 5th flush in 9 years of ownership as well. They checked it but said the coolant looked "perfect" so the didn't do it. Nice to trust your mechanic, he could have done it again and I wouldh't have said boo.

Yup, I was the hook for a boatload of Redline ATF as that was used in the power steering unit as well. Close to 20 quarts!!! 15 full quarts for the transmission and I think 3 or 4 for power steering, it was nearly $200 bucks worth!

The capsules were the halogen light caps, the ones in there were original equipement still and were for sure tired. While they were dong all the work I gave them the Sylvania's I picked up (whatever their top-of-the-line ones are, gave up on PIAA's as they wear out too quickly).

Oh, fresh Nissan OEM air filter was installed too. I couldn't think of much else to do (nor could my mechanic) for now. He drove the car to pick me up from SFO airport and said "man this car drives so much better than my i30 did I cannot believe it". "The only thing it needs is a 5 speed"....I couldn't agree more but I need one slush box in the family.
