What makes a full exhaust? Is it testpipe/downpipe/muffler?

Or what combo, and where does the Cat-back fit in?

If i bought the apexi n1 dualls off http://www.heavythrottle.com would that just be the muffler or what?

First you have your exhaust manifold that is bolted to the engine. After that is the downpipe, then cat (or test pipe if you replace the cat with a straight pipe), then after the cat is the rest of the exhaust piping to the muffler. It is called "cat back" because most exhaust systems only replace the piping from the cataylitic converter to the back of the car, hence cat back.

to simplify heres what you would need for a "full" exhaust system:

downpipe, test pipe (or whatever you wanna put where the cat goes), then cat back exhaust system.

:)

This is what the N1 duals come with. It is a full cat back system.

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate it, and speedracer i envy u.

But to make sure, if you just put a test pipe in that means there is no cat. correct? So when emissions time u replace it w/ a cat i would assume?

There are generally three types of pieces for this middle part of the exhaust system. The first is the actual catalytic converter, the second is a dummy cat which has been debated as to whether it is as good as the third option, the test or straight pipe.

If you intend to pass emissions have a cat on the car, the lack of a cat wont provide a HUGE increase in power but every little bit helps I guess.

I had a dummy cat (which if anyone wants ill sell) and now im using a random technologies hi flow cat. I use it more for the fact that its cheap alternative cat since the stock new Nissan cat is expensive.

If your talking about a test pipe then a few companies make them, the easiest thing to do would be to go to a muffler shop and have them make you one. It should be less than $50. If your talking about a replacement Hi flow cat then you can get a random technologies one, there are a couple other companies out there but the names escape me at the moment.

Oh yeah HKS makes one for $800.

be fore warned that cutting that cat makes the 240 sound close to a honda had mine cutoff it is loud and sounds like a honda but with the bigger engine it is deeper sounding so if you don't want the honda sound I do not recomend cutting the cat

Hey guys... does the Dual N1's run along the same path as the stock exhuast... reason is I don't want it to look crooked like some honda guys where the exhuast piping seems to almost touch the ground as it has to go under the gas tank. Thanks.

It runs much straighter than the stock pipes. At the differential it drops slightly lower than stock (only because the pipe is larger in diameter), but there is a gentle bend back up and towards the drive side. It exits facing up and out... so it is nowhere near the ground.
