ok lemme start off by telling you whats been going on wit it.. last week when i was coming home from san antonio it was making a clicking noise.. not real loud but like a like tic tic tic.. and i checked my coolant and it was like a funky brown color too.. and throughout the week its been getting louder.. and tonight i was driving around and i brought my reving to about 4500 and it got real real loud.. and when i let go of the throttle it died.. checked the oil plenty, check the coolant plenty, nothing out of the ordinary.. but my oil light comes on.. so i start my car again and it starts but still a loud clicking sound.. and the oil light flickers with the ticing noise.. so anyways im about 20mins from my house so i drive it on the freeway about 35 all the way.. it really loud but still drivable.. anyways so im almost to my house and i take my foot off the gas and it just goes POW.. and all this black smoke comes out of the back.. and i get to my house on a roll.. and all my coolant is everywhere and my engine is hella hot.. and all the coolant is a brown brown color.. and i think well im more then sure i blew something out because theres like a line of oil or something from when i took my foot off the gas and made that POW noise to my house.. theres like a dark line of whatever... any ideas? im pretty much broke.. so anything helpful would be appriacieted... oh yea im gonna open up my engine.. is there anything i should look out for? and if anything where can i get another used engine or something as cheap as possible.. i just need it to work and back..joe:confused: :( :help

sounds like your oil pump took a **** and you threw a rod, look for a knarly hole in the side of your engine.

don't know on a KA, CAs usually throw #1. Check it in the day, just follow the oil up it will lead you to whatever tried to escape.

yea, instead of spending money on a problematic engine, just get another KA. that will be cheaper, because there's no way you're getting rid of your 240 right?

check oil light doesnt always mean you are low on oil. low oil pressure will also turn it on which might explain the noise but you ignored it and kept driving it and revving it high. :rolleyes the oil is the life of your engine, that light comes on- shut it down as soon as you can and find out WHY it came on.

you may have thrown a rod. ive seen it happen and have had to replace a motor on someones car once because of that. like it wa siad above, look for the hole in your block, if its typical of every other KA then it will be in front right at #1 and your piston will be in hundreds of pieces in the oil pan.

and all i found was a lil hole on the oil pan which couldve been where my oil had a small leak in it.. but then theres a hole right next to it where its the size of a half a dollar..(i can stick my index and middle finger in it). soo what now? but there arent any other holes in the engine.. from what i can see.. should i open up the top part of the engine and look around.. joe

there is no way of knowing until you open the motor how much damage has been done. If you have indeed thrown a rod it would be more cost effective to get a decent scrapyard motor, clean it up take care of any leaks and drop it in. Rebuilding an engine can get involved and expensive and it sounds like you don't need that kind of greif right now. It couldn't hurt to throw the blown one in the corner of the garage and tinker with it while you drive on the used mill.

No offence, but after driving with a loud ticking noise at highway speeds, I can easily see this one.... :)

Sounds like to me as well, you threw a rod and basically killed your motor. The hole in your oil pan is evidence of that...There's no point IMHO, of just trying to replace/repair the damage to one cylinder, who knows what other damage has been done. It would be cheaper to just buy a new motor and get over it.

Now you know what happens when you ignore what your engine is saying...... Good luck!

Don't feel bad, your motor was probably wasted by then anyway, you saved $50.00 for a towtruck and still made it home. I have seen a timing chain come loose and slap a hole in the timing cover but the hole in your oil pan and the big POW! says rod. Motor is done, yank it and chuck it, well see if the head survived unscathed. It could be beneficial to have an extra. What's your budget for repairs?

V30det from a late 80s inline 6 turbo will fit with slight modifications... but if you are a novice... try a Ca or Ka24de swap

Dammit!! wrong button, I'm sure I'll hear it for that! :D

Well, hat to say it, but welcome to my world.....Last week same thing...Timing chain slipped, put hole in something, let antifreeze into oil, spun bearing, threw rod, engine blown. Yee ha! Also sounds like we have the same amount of $$ saved up for expenses...luck us!! Anyway......

If all else fails, try to find a used crappy 1990 - 1992 stanza. THey have the same engines in them, and should be a standard swap. I have also been told that the older trucks have the ka24e engines in them, but I have not verified that. I was quoted b/t 500 and 800 for labor on mine, and it shouldn't be that much different for you. If you can p.u a stanza for 500 or so, your are done for around 1500??? That is probably the best you are going to be able to do.

Sorry for the bad news but I have heard this helps....:alcoholic

It did me anyway:D

stick an L28 in it from a 280ZX turbo! I found one in a junkyard a couple of years back with the Borg Warner T-5 still bolted to it for $500.00. You want some sack the L will rock!
