Noy sure if this has been asked before, but here goes.
When I fuel up my 2005 Q45,I always top it off all the way until I can actually see the gas at the very top of the filler neck. This of course takes some time and careful dribbling in of the last bit to avoid overflow and spillage. I usually can get around 1.3 gallons more in this way, and calculating my mileage is accurate.
Does this compromise or create a problem with the fuel system?I note that when I open the gas cap to fuel up, I can't hear any pressure release like I used to on my '94 Q45t. The CEL has not appeared, and the car seems to run fine, with good power, throttle response, and fuel mileage. There is never any odor of gasoline from the car, inside, outside, or under the hood.
One of my concerns is that excess pressure in the fuel lines from topping off may be causing the injectors to bleed fuel into the cylinders when shut down overnight. This would wash the oil from the cylinder walls and lead to early and excessive cylinder wear, and eventually bearing /crankshaft erosion. I cannot detect and gasoline odor in the oil either, but it wouldn't take much leakage/seepage into the cylinders to create wear. Could this be the cause of no system pressurization when I open the gas cap?
