I am in the process of replacing the fuel pump (2nd time at 165k, replaced 1st time at 88k). I looked in the tank and it is full of fine dirt particles. That's probably what caused the pump to wear out so quickly.

So, I need to pull the tank out and clean it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am assuming that it is a pretty straight-forward job.

Can I clean it out with a garden hose, followed by some brake cleaner? I know that Q45Tech mentioned that the tank should be steam-cleaned, but I don't have access to that equipment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As long as you get all the moisture out that's probably fine. If you have a compressor maybe you can invert the tank and use a blowgun inside against all the walls for a while till all the dirt exits the bottom, then turn it upright and let it dry out in the sun.

Thanks DAEDULUS. I am going to try to finish it up this weekend.
