I have a 1996 J30. As I was driving the car it started to hesitate and sputter. When I got home there was a strong gas odor. The next day the car was leaking fuel. The fuel is coming out of the exhaust at the cat. Everything under the hood is dry. It looks like it is coming from the inside of the pipe. It is a steady drip. when you remove the gas cap the leak stops. The leaking happens when the car is off.

wow, that sounds strange man.the only way i can think that thats hapenning is that uve got a leaky injector that fuel is seaping past. filling first the cylender then flowing out the exhaust valve on a cylnder that is on the overlap part of the valve timing???? dose it fire up right away. or have u not tried yet cause that could b bad, w fuel every wheremaby the feul is leaking around the exhaust starting on a fitting on the firewall dripping onto exhaust and flowing down to where its dripping??? follow the fuel line closely to look for a leak. mabey its there just not obviouse?? hope u find the prob. good luck

check the carbon canister hoses.... seems like one of the hoses is shot

is the leak coming from the passanger side exhaust pipe?, all the fuel lines run close to there, check them as well

Thank you guys for the help. Based on what you said about the injector being stuck open, I removed the number 2 spark plug so I can see the top of the cylinder. At this point I turned the key to the on position to pressurize the fuel rail. Immediately fuel filled the number 2 cylinder. I removed the rest of the spark plugs to see that there was no fuel in any other except for the number 2. I removed the dip stick and can see fuel but no oil residue. If anyone else can help that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you either have a leaking(bad) injector or a leaking injector o-ring. Do the ohm test on a couples of the injectors and compare that to the #2, as i remember a good one should ohm out in ~12-13 range. Either way, you will end up having to pull the injector out to fix it. but before that , the huge intake manifold has to come out first. BTW, if you need some help, i'm in bay area myself.

Thank you for your offer and advice. I think more than likely I'm going to take it to a shop. How many hours roughly do you think something like that would take?

Check out Fuzzycats.com DIY section

I did a few of my injectors without pulling the plenum.
