i got a 97 hardbody, about a month ago i ran out of gas, so i filled it up, and ever since then my truck jerks and struggles to go when i give it gas, and the weird thing is every once and a while it will run perfect then start actin up.... sometimes i can sit there and idle and it will idle perfect, other times it will idle down and shut off on me.... We changed the fuel filter, the TPS, cap/button, and sparkplugs............ and is still doin it.......... I was thinkin the fuel pump but my fuel pressure is around 35-40 which seems normal......... does anyone know of anyhting it might be?????????????????

Thanks!

Maybe some particulate got past the filter and is messing with the injectors. Most likely it sounds like your IAC is on its way out.

Have you replaced your fuel filter?

Could be as simple as something stuck in there thats clogging it up once and a while.

Just something to check. They are super cheap and easy to replace, so might as well start there.

I have a similar problem with my 02 xterra se. i completed full tune up with no change. I am now looking at fuel pressure regulator. If it is dumping fuel back to tank improperly. It will be causing fluctuation in pressure which must be constant. find out what your fuel pressure should be. If pressure is right on the money, this would be my next step. Good Luck.

I tested my fuel pressure regulator with no success. I then put a scanner on it for a second time and this time it showed Knock sensor was bad. (Throws off timing causing hesitation and stalling. Suggest you try scan your car and look under pending codes. Good luck.

I'd check for stored codes for starts.

A friend of mine came by and suggested that the mass air flow sensor could be bad and would not show a code, at least in its current state. He then touched the plug and moved it just a little bit. Engine stumbled and stalled. Tried it again. Same results. Changed it and now running fine. Wish he had passed by sooner.
