truck will run if i pour gas directly down the throttle body. im at loss as to how to check if the fuel pump is working. the fuse and relay are ok. should i have gas coming out of the filter outlet when the ignition is turned on? should i be able to hear a slight noise from the pump at the tank? i'v read one should check the fuel preasure regulator before replacing the pump, but i would like to test to see if the pump is actually working. ty for any info/help.

Some fuel injection systems have a return line to the gas tank, so fuel is always circulating through, after the pressure regulator holds back what it needs, and of course the engine taking some away. I think some might not have a return line, and just heave the fuel at the injectors only. In either case, you should have fuel flowing out of the filter with the ignition turned on (not just accessories). You should check the fuel filter first. Parts for the z24i electro-injection can be pricey, (you should check yourself though, its been a few years since I sold my z24i). If the pump and regulator does turn out to be bad, a walbro pump and aftermarket performance regulator might even be cheaper than the factory stuff. Also, your injectors are pricey. If they do turn out to be bad, you can have them cleaned out or rebuilt and flow tested for cheaper than ridiculous new s***.

solved my own problem, so i'll share what i did. as no fuel was coming out of the hose when ignition was on, i went after the fuel pump inside the tank. (tank removal tip..as the clamps holding all the hose's to the tank WILL be rusted and impossible to remove in the close quarters before tank is dropped, i sujest removing the screws that hold the filler pipe at your gas cap, and feeding the whole thing thru while you drop tank).

after removing the fuel pump from the assembly, i took it to the battery and did a direct test. well thr fargin thing worked haha. puter all back together, gave the fuel preasure regulator a few taps with the hammer, and away it went lol.

i did sort of clean the pump, some black crap came out with the fuel. so im at loss as to what actually was wrong, or how it got fixed....but will say this....

i'v got 365000 kms on this unit, "original clutch" if you can believe that. it purr's like a kitten, starts at -40 without being plugged in. major repairs: 1 ball joint, 1 alternater, 1 heater core, and one used power steering pump.

they probably don't make em this good anymore
