This may a case of paranoia on my part, but I wanted to ask you NICO guys so I know how much I should be worried.

Well, I was doing my own fuel filter change today, and as I got the top tube off, some fuel spilled out (I stopped the flow with my thumb). Then, when I undid the bottom tube, some more fuel spilled out of the filter itself. Yes, I know you're supposed to release fuel pressure by doing the gas cap/fuse procedure, which I did, but I guess I didn't give the engine enough cranks to truly release the pressure. Anyway, I'd say about 1/4 cup of fuel drained out and down into the engine bay. Before the change, I placed a container below the filter, which caught about half of the said fuel. I finished up the replacement and got everything tightened down, but didn't start the engine or reconnect battery power.

My question to you all is how worried should I be of a fire? Should I just let the car sit in my driveway for awhile and wait for the fuel to evaporate, or something else? It may be a dumb question, but I love my 240 too much to see it blow up because of my careless mistake.

I changed mine and a lot leaked out i really didn't pay any attention to it b/c i knew it would happen and i dont remember it getting pn anything that was gonna get hot. I started mine let it idle for a few min drove it around the block parked it a watched some tv no fires for me. If your that worried wipe it down of what you can see and let it sit for max like an hour it should evaporate by then.

Just let it sit overnight and it should be good.

Or if you really have to go out tonight, give it at least an hour.

gasoline evaporates quickly. even if you were to spill all the gas from the filter all over the place, it would dry within the hour.

could someone elaborate more on this cuz i was gonna change my injectors and fuel filter too, and i'd like to know how to release the pressure

and for your question, if it was me i'd take the hose and spray off the area then let it sit for a little while, maybe not the best way but i'm stupid so ya.

disconnect your fuse for the fuel pump, run the car until it runs out of gas. no pressure.

They also say to remove your gas cap when you do this, but I bet just the fuse would do it.

Well, I gave it about two hours, with the hood up in a ventilated area, then hooked up the battery and gave it a try. Started just fine, no leaks. Took a spin around the block, no problems, no fires, no explosions. S'all good. :)

for the record, you MUST remove the gas cap, that woosh when you take it off will allow fuel to keep pushing out, i didnt do that when i did my injectors, probobly lost like a cup of fuel, let it sit overnight with a shop fan blowing on it, no problems

sissies! you can just soak up the gas with a old cloth when you released the hose from the fuel filter :)

no need to worry about gas catching in fire because it is the actual fume that burns not the gas itself...and the gas fume evaporates real quick....no need to worry....just make sure you dont smoke while youre doing that....
