Finally dropped in my Redtop SR this weekend after a minor rebuild. Did everything, as far as dismantle and reassemble, as all write ups said to do so. Made sure it was at TDC, lined up the chain links with the dots, and kept it that way through out the top end rebuild.

So today was the first day we tried to start er up. All the vacuum lines are good, wiring was done by a reliable person, fuel pump is working (walbro 255), CAS was set up as FRsport said to, everything that i can think of is cool.

Engine starts up for a few seconds and dies quick. For those few seconds of starting up and running, it shakes like crazy. To the point where i'm worried my car is going to fall off the jack stands. a lil bit of smoke is coming out of the exhaust side of things, fuel is pumping good, and spark plugs are doing there job. Adjusted the CAS and we found a "sweet spot" to where it would idle ok, but even still it was crazy harsh and died after a few seconds.

We think the timing is way off. engine sounds like it wants to go, but just doesn't quite...go. This may be a lil broad, but can you suggest anything?

Things i will try tomorrow:I read something about the CAS being 180 deg off. To re align i must set at TDC, pull the cas out and turn the engine over till its back at TDC and put the CAS back in. Maybe it will help.

I havent touched the TPS, might this do anything?

I am so lost as to why this is happening. Any help will be amazingly super duper appreciated. I haven't driven my car since july 5th when i blew the KA so i am desperately wanting to drive! Anything that i can do to clarify just ask. thanx in advance.

mrzabala encountered a problem similar to this on his Redtop. the problem he had were his injector seals on the manifold were shot. he replaced them and it worked solid ever since.

Dumb question but do you have an air filter installed? What happens if you try giving it throttle when it does idle? Check the compression, timing could be off, run it with the maf unplugged, intake plenum gaskets leaking, fuel system problem

With me, no question is to0 dumb, especially when it comes to this SR. I'm learning everything as i go basically. Yes i am using an air filter. KnN to be exact. Well it only turns over when i give it a lot of throttle and once it does turn over if i dont give it more or hold where its at, it dies quicker. As for the other things, I will check them out this week, as well as the injector seal . Thanx for the responses guys i really appreciate it

Check timing, your cas might be off.

Yeppo. Somehow the coilpack wiring harness was corroded for one pack way back into the harness.

It does sound like timing is off. 1) does it start every time you turn the key and then die?2) Or does it just not start and shake as you crank it?This could be to a swapping of fuel lines( it happened to me ) 3) Make sure your coils are WELL grounded.

GIGGITY!

I did the CAS adjustment as stated in my first post and it started right up on first try. Set the timing with a timing gun and its running well for now. Still a rough idle but from here i should be able to work the kinks out. Thanks for all the help.
